Do you have a passion for working with animalsโ€”and want to put that passion to work for a meaningful cause?

Alaqua Animal Refuge, a nationally recognized nonprofit rescue and sanctuary on 100 acres in Freeport, Florida, is seeking a dedicated Kennel Tech to join our team. We care for animals of all species, breeds, sizes, and backgroundsโ€”many of whom come from situations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

This role is hands-on, physical, and deeply rewarding for someone who wants to make a real difference in the lives of animals in need.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Feed, water and monitor clinic patients daily
  • Clean kennels, play yards, and common areas to maintain a safe, sanitary environment
  • Assist with health care routines and veterinary clinic visits
  • Monitor behavior, note changes, and report health or behavioral concerns
  • Support intake and rehabilitation plans for newly rescued animals
  • Help assist Vet Techs with animal needs
  • Provide love, structure, and compassion to animals who need it most

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • Prior hands-on experience with animals in a shelter, kennel, veterinary, or training environment (required)
  • Prior experience in a veterinary clinic (preferred)
  • Ability to safely handle animals of all sizes and temperaments
  • Hardworking, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting 50+ lbs, handling strong dogs, cleaning, and more
  • Team player with strong communication skills and deep compassion for animals

Why Join the Alaqua Team?

  • Work directly with rescued animals in a peaceful, healing environment
  • Be part of a passionate team dedicated to second chances and lifelong care
  • Do meaningful, active work that makes a daily impact
  • Enjoy a beautiful 100-acre sanctuary filled with hope and heart
  • Flexible schedules | Full and part-time roles | Ongoing training and growth opportunities

If youโ€™ve got a heart for animals and a strong work ethic, weโ€™d love to have you on the team.
