Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full-time Accounting Analyst at our Salina, KS location.
The Accounting Analyst position is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of accounting entries, reports, and reconciliations, many of which utilize complex spreadsheets. These tasks involve assimilating data from various sources, updating spreadsheets and using analytical thinking skills throughout to determine their accuracy.
  • Performing and communicating financial statement variance analysis during the monthly financial statement close process in a time-sensitive manner
  • Assist with the estimations of the impact on financial statements of regulatory amendments, business model alterations, software conversions, etc.
  • Complete controlled processes to remit cash payments to third parties, including tax-related entities and vendors
  • Manage prepaid and/or accrued expenses and fixed assets and related depreciation processes
  • Account for investment entries including premiums, amortizations, swap interest adjustments, cash collateral settlements, equity method investments, derivative position settlement, etc.
  • Manage recurring monthly entries including lease accounting, cash accounting, reconciling variances to actual statements upon receipt and recommending updates for future monthly entries
  • Accounting for Intercompany and affiliate payables and receivables
  • Track invoice payments for capital expenditures and compare with departmental budgets Assisting with research on reconciliation discrepancies, including proposing journal entries
  • Processing and reviewing interest accrual entries for loans, deposits and borrowings
  • Comply with designed control environment to reduce/eliminate the potential for misstatements
  • Assist with annual audit and periodic regulatory exam requests
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer and bank information
  • Maintain effective business relationships with those with whom business is conducted, both inside and outside of the bank, including co-workers, customers, vendors, and others
  • Perform the job in accordance with applicable industry laws and regulations as well as the policies and procedures established by the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting preferred
  • 1 year of accounting experience, ideally with a bank or similar financial institution preferred
  • Must possess proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the capacity to effectively learn company-specific accounting and operations systems
  • Desire and aptitude to identify and investigate anomalies on financial reports
  • Proven ability to work independently & be able to communicate conclusions to management
  • Proven ability to look for improvements in efficiency or effectiveness of operational processes
  • Must possess sufficient interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and various departments throughout the company

Working Conditions
The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Employees may spend extended periods sitting or standing, using hands to operate computers or other equipment, and reaching for work-related tasks. Regular walking may be required, along with occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or climbing. The role may involve lifting or moving items weighing up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
