Job description

Position Title
Workers Comp Injury Counselor
Days - Full Time
Remote
Position Summary / Career Interest:
Primary responsibility is the coordination of the of the workers' compensation program. Responsibilities encompass claims monitoring and administration, report generation, light duty work assignments, communication with third party administrators, employees, managers, insurance carriers, medical personnel and lawyers. Maintains WCCMS and Risk Master Data bases and employee injury records
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Communicate with Work Comp attorney and Claims Office regarding claims and legal opinions.
  • Communicates closely with the employee, supervisor and physician in order to achieve positive outcomes. Works with supervisors to accommodate work restrictions or locates alternative light duty assignments. Assist in the injured employee's return to work by communicating with the treating physician to ensure progress with recovery. Proactively monitors employee progress, maintaining periodic contact with the employee and other parties related to the care of the injured employee. Sets follow-up action plans. Obtains full duty releases upon return to work or counsels supervisors on work restrictions and light duty assignments.
  • Document claims in WCCMS (Worker's Compensation Claims Management System). Until interface between WCCMS and Risk Master is functional, enters injury data in Risk Master. Document claims in the OSHA log in WCCMS.
  • Identifies areas that need performance improvement and ergonomics assistance. Conducts ergonomic assessments within realm of expertise and in general creates a safer workplace for employees.
  • Prepares reports as requested by the Safety Committee, various work groups and for other ongoing and special projects.
  • Processes weekly claims register payments, monthly third party administration invoices, and all other workers compensation related invoices.
  • Provides education to managers and employees on the Workers Compensation program.
  • Receives and maintains all employee injury reports. Gathers information from employee, supervisor and the employee's physician as necessary.
  • Refers cases to medical case management.
  • Stays current and maintain up-to-date industry knowledge via outside reading as well as attendance at educational seminars and classes.
  • Supervises the work of the Benefits Specialist assigned to assist with the Workers Compensation program.
  • Works directly with the third party Claims Supervisor.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the management of a Workers Compensation program or role as an Injury Counselor.
  • Experience as a clinical professional.

Knowledge Requirements
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with WCCMS and Risk Master or other standard claim administration applications, proficient with maintaining various types of data base management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability to work within a team environment and receive high customer satisfaction ratings.
  • Ability to handle work-related stress and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Well versed in Kansas and Missouri compensation Laws.
