The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

As a Director within HR Tech, you'll sit at the intersection of platform excellence, people leadership, and AI-driven innovation, guiding a team of engineers and configuration specialists who are shaping the systems that power the employee experience at Travelers.   • Lead a team of Software Engineers and Business Systems Consultants by providing technical guidance, skill development and mentorship while modeling Travelers' leadership behaviors.
  • Direct complex design, development, analysis, configuration, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementation based on user or system specifications for impactful and high-visibility tasks.
  • Lead investigation and resolution efforts for critical, high impact problems, defects, and incidents.
  • Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve the business and provide more efficient processes.
  • Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.

  • Workday Platform Expertise: Demonstrated hands-on experience with Workday HCM, Financials, or Integrations (Studio, EIB, Orchestration), with the ability to guide architectural decisions, govern configuration standards, and translate complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable Workday solutions.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Proven track record of building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams of Workday engineers and configuration specialists, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and career growth through mentorship, performance management, and skills development planning.
  • Delivery Excellence: Experience leading Agile delivery teams through full lifecycle Workday implementations, enhancements, and support, consistently driving on-time, high-quality outcomes while managing scope, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations across cross-functional programs.
  • Configuration & Engineering Standards: Ability to establish and enforce configuration governance, code quality standards, and engineering best practices across Workday tenants, including change control, testing rigor (unit, integration, regression), and documentation discipline to ensure platform stability and auditability.
  • AI & Emerging Technology Leadership : Experience identifying, piloting, and scaling AI-driven solutions within HR technology ecosystems, including agentic workflows, intelligent automation, and generative AI integrations, to deliver personalized, efficient employee, manager, and candidate experiences across platforms including Workday and enterprise systems such as Sana.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled at partnering with HR, Finance, and IT stakeholders to prioritize roadmap initiatives, align delivery capacity to business value, and serve as a trusted technical advisor who bridges the gap between platform capabilities and organizational needs.
  • 5 years of related experience; including insurance / financial services industry experience.
  • Interprets internal/ external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes.
  • Delivery - Advanced delivery skills including the ability to determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before release, monitor the health of work efforts and that of adjacent systems.
  • Domain Expertise - Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to develop business partnerships and influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objective and closely follow industry trends relevant to domain, understanding how to apply them, and sharing knowledge with coworkers.

What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
  • 6 additional years of software engineering experience.
