Special Education Paraprofessional -
Variable buildings and hours available for upcoming school year

• This list will be used for all buildings as positions become availalbe.  
• Full Time hours are typically 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, there may be slight variations dependent on the building.
  Part Time hours may vary in days and times per building, schedules are consistent.
  
• Work schedule includes student contact days/beginning conference days plus 5 staff development days (171 days total) per year. 
   
  

General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate student support work monitoring students' academic and behavior Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal.  
Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions

• Follows student Individualized Education Plan (IEP); monitors student behaviors and redirects when required;
  uses CPI with student when necessary; communicates with classroom teacher and case manager; attends IEP meetings as requested.
  
• Supervises morning, lunchroom, recess, after school and bathroom breaks.
• Assists students with clothing (shoes, zippers, gloves etc.); assists students walking to classrooms and lunchroom etc.
• Assists students with classwork throughout the day (math, spelling, reading etc.); ensures students attend Special Education
  sessions and sensory breaks; monitors student schedules throughout the day; charts sensory breaks; monitors students with medical conditions.
  
• Completes time study and student chart for third party billing.
• Monitors students with medical conditions; provides medication in the absence of the School Nurse; administers minor First Aid when required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• General knowledge of IEP and third party billing
• Thorough knowledge of behavior plans
• Thorough knowledge of standard office equipment and software
• Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
• Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, students, parents and elected officials

Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional lifting up to 50 pounds (sometimes more for student transfers); pushing/pulling up to 90 pounds (wheelchairs); work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting and using hands to move, handle or feel and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision and distance vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements 
In order to work as a Special Education Paraprofessional, you must meet the state requirement of being Highly Qualified. 
To be considered Highly Qualified, you must have ONE of the following:
1. A Bachelor's Degree, or
    2. An Associates Degree, or
    3. 60+ credits of post-secondary education, or
    4. A portfolio demonstrating MN Core Competenices for Paraprofessionals*, or
    5. A passing score on the ParaPro Exam*.
Please be prepared to submit documentation in support of your qualifications. 
*New London-Spicer schools will provide support to exceptional candidates to meet Portfolio or ParaPro Exam requirements, including on-site proctoring of the ParaPro Exam at no cost to the candidate.  
Rate of Pay:
$18.69/hour Per Union Contract (pre-settlement)
