Assistant Teacher/Sp Ed
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma; a passing score on the assistant teacher test
2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO:
Special Education Classroom Teachers
JOB GOAL:
Serve as assistant instructor to promote pupil learning. Reinforce skills and lessons taught by the instructor and supplement basal instruction to stimulate achievement.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides individualized (one-to-one) instruction to special education students as directed.
2. Listens to special education children read and reads to special education in small groups.
3. Reinforces instructions of special education teacher with coordinated activities as assigned.
4. Helps all special education students stay on task during classroom activities (i.e. moving about classroom as assigned to assist special education students to understand and participate in instructional activities).
5. Assists special education teachers in exposing special education students to library books and other supplemental resources as assigned.
6. Supervises independent study of special education students.
7. Makes resource material for independent study for special education students.
8. Contributes to a positive learning environment for special education students.
9. Observes, tracks, and manages student behavior.
10. May assist students in using technology devices.
11. Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with Universal Health Precautions.
12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
