Overview

The Department of Otolaryngology has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Study Assistant to the Prosthetic Auditory Development Lab (PADL), part of the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center located on Seattle Campus.

Reporting to David Horn, Associate Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the Research Study Assistant supports clinical research by assisting with participant visits, data collection, and study operations. This position helps ensure a positive research experience for participants while maintaining accurate study records, preparing the laboratory for research activities, and providing general administrative and operational support to the lab.

Key Responsibilities

40% - Research Participant Support & Data Collection

  • Welcome participants to the lab.

  • Assist with data collection during research sessions.

  • Keep infants comfortable, engaged, and "on task" during testing.

  • Provide appropriate social reinforcement to participants.

25% - Data Management & Study Documentation

  • Perform data entry.

  • Maintain study forms and research documentation.

  • Ensure records are accurate and organized.

20% - Laboratory Preparation & Maintenance

  • Prepare the lab before and after participant sessions.

  • Perform general cleaning and organization of the laboratory.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and research-ready environment.

10% - Communications & Outreach

  • Assist with website updates and social media entries to support lab communications and outreach.

5% - Team Collaboration

  • Participate in lab meetings and contribute to team discussions and ongoing research activities.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally and courteously with research participants and the public.

  • Ability to represent the laboratory in a professional, friendly, and welcoming manner.

  • Experience working with infants and their parents or caregivers.

  • Experience working with cochlear implant users.

  • Knowledge of Speech and Hearing Sciences.

  • Experience working in a clinical or healthcare setting.

  • Experience assisting with research in Speech and Hearing Sciences or a related field.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$21.70 hourly

Pay Range Maximum:

$24.39 hourly
