Responsibilities
  • Works with Racing Secretary to analyze official past performance records to create and arrange races between horses of equal experience and ability.
  • Confers with racing secretary to plan types of races to schedule and to determine purse for each race
  • Reviews application requesting permission to enter and train horse for competition
  • Accepts application and entrance fees from owners-trainers
  • Registers names of persons having financial interest in horse
  • Reviews racing information to be published in newspaper, racing form, and daily racing program
  • Assists Racing Secretary in overseeing other racing personnel. Records information regarding official racing result to keep file on each horse's ability
  • Observes race to study ability and form of horse, verifies selection of entries,
  • Acts as liaison with horsemen on racing related matters
  • Tracking the accounts of the drivers, trainers and owners receiving fees.
  • Disbursing fees to proper claimants.
  • Preparing and disbursing horseman's checks and transfers.
  • Manage the bookkeeper office to ensure procedures are being followed.
  • Works directly with judges on all fine issues.
  • Reconcile all accounts associated with live racing and prepare W-9's and statements for all accounts
  • Coordinate financial transactions with the Director of Racing and the Director of Finance as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Read, write legibly, understand, and speak English
  • Minimum of 2 years administrative and accounting experience required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Must be licensed with United States Trotting Association
  • Must be licensed with Ohio Racing Commission
  • Horizon software experience preferred
  • Previous cash handling experience necessary
  • Commitment in confidentiality of information and records
  • Excellent problem solving and prioritization skills and highly organized
  • Demonstrated commitment/interest/experience in the racing industry preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
