Job description

Purpose:

This position is responsible for working as a member of the R&D shaping team to provide technical support in the areas of glass bending and tempering to the Automotive business unit and to R&D projects.  Support will also be provided in other areas, such as printing and laminating, as priorities require.

Essential Functions:

For R&D equipment, projects, New Model Introduction, and technical business support

Responsibilities:

  • Manage press tools and associated items for PB2 furnace R&D and automotive development
  • Manage press tool covering material and installation of materials
  • Coordinate tool changeover and aligner setup for development on press-bend furnace
  • Assist/run with PB2 furnace operation for trials and development
  • Conduct daily inspections of equipment and assist with preventive maintenance activities
  • Assist with equipment and tool repairs (corrective maintenance)
  • Troubleshoot process problems
  • Stage glass at PB2 as required for R&D and automotive development
  • Maintain PB2 and work areas to 5S cleanliness standards
  • Maintain inventory of glass for automotive R&D requirements
  • Prepare glass samples as required for R&D and automotive
  • Manage tempering (tong) furnace to complete work requests
  • Provide support to other team members (printing, tempering, laminating) to complete work requests
  • Assist with creation and adherence to SOP’s and other quality documentation
  • Arrange glass/equipment for shipment and provide required documentation
  • Inspect and measure glass, including glass stress, per R&D projects
  • Prepare reports from quality inspections and measurements
  • Independently operate equipment
  • Follow safe work practices
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records (laboratory notebook and documents)
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours, on occasion
