Job Summary:
The CSUSB Basic Needs & Student Support serves as a one-stop wellness hub where students can access basic needs services, complete basic needs intake, and connect to housing, food, financial, and other essential resources both on and off-campus.
Wellness Ambassadors are a group of positive, enthusiastic and well-informed students who are interested in supporting the daily operation of the Basic Needs & Student Support Center. We are seeking an organized, motivated, and outgoing individuals to support the daily operations of the Basic Needs & Student Support Center.
Responsibilities:
Compassionate Care
• Provide quality and consistent student-centered services to all students and provide additional resources and information to assist students in addressing their needs.
• Maintain a caring, respectful, comfortable, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all student shoppers served in the Obershaw DEN and/or mobile pantry.
• Maintain positive and professional working relationships with external agencies and the campus community including students, staff, and community members.
• Present a professional appearance and positive attitude.
Operations
• Under direct supervision, maintain the daily duties of the mobile pantry, assists with mobile pantry opening and closing duties.
• Maintain utilization records of shoppers in the Obershaw DEN and/or mobile pantry in the Athletic department including scanning IDs, processing donations, performing data entry.
• Maintain food inventory, quality control, and rotation of food supply in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Keep space and storage area clean and organized, including wiping down shelving, and refrigerators, organizing stocking, and quality control.
• Support crowd control during busy times in the service area.
• Track student usage and inventory management for reporting purposes.
• Ability to push, pull, lift up to 25 pounds
Outreach
• Remain current of services and resources available on and off campus, such as free food at upcoming events and programs.
• Refer students to additional resources available through Basic & Needs & Student Support and the integrated Holistic Support.
• Engage with students through in-person tabling and outreach events to promote department services, programs, and resources.
• Provide basic needs resources and services offered to students which may include Basic Needs Grant Request, Swipe Out Hunger, CalFresh, incentive resources, and more.
Coaching
• Guide and follow up with new and returning students on basic needs services or resources to successfully complete.
• Refer students to additional resources available through the Basic & Needs & Student Support Center and the integrated Holistic Support
General.
• Attend staff meetings and all required training every 1st and 3rd Friday of every month.
• Work on special projects as assigned.
• Assume responsibility for understanding and learning about all basic needs services and program offered in the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.

Required Qualifications:
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to provide friendly and pleasant student-oriented services and maintain a professional work conduct
- Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Ability to adhere to work agreements, follow routine verbal and written instructions, use time effectively and work productively with general supervision
- Ability to speak and write in a second language is a plus but not required.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Intermediate proficiency in Google applications.
-Ability to lift 25 pounds
Special Conditions:
Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information:
Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.

Conditions of Employment
Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Driver's License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
