Work Startup information

What is a work startup?

Work startups are early-stage companies or ventures focused on developing innovative solutions, products, or services that address challenges in the modern workplace. These startups often leverage technology to improve productivity, collaboration, and employee well-being, or to streamline HR, recruitment, and workflow processes. Work startups play a crucial role in shaping the future of work by offering new tools and platforms that help businesses and employees adapt to changing work environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a startup founder?

To thrive as a Startup Founder, you need strong entrepreneurial acumen, business strategy knowledge, and a willingness to take calculated risks, often supported by experience in your chosen industry or a relevant degree. Familiarity with digital productivity tools, basic accounting software, and project management platforms is highly beneficial, as are certifications such as Lean Startup or business accelerators. Exceptional resilience, adaptability, leadership, and communication skills set standout founders apart. These skills and qualities are vital for navigating uncertainty, building effective teams, and driving growth in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

What unique challenges might I face when joining a startup, and how can I prepare for them?

Working at a startup often means adapting to a fast-paced and ever-changing environment where roles and responsibilities can shift quickly. You may encounter limited resources, ambiguity in processes, and the need to wear multiple hats. To thrive, it’s important to be flexible, proactive, and comfortable with taking initiative. Building strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset will help you work efficiently with a small, dynamic team. Embracing a growth mindset and being open to learning new skills will also set you up for success in this evolving setting.

Job description

Installation Technician – Project Services Division

Location: Travel-based (Domestic & International)
Job Type: Full-time

About the Role

Reading Bakery Systems (RBS), a global leader in industrial baking equipment, is seeking an Installation Technician to join our Project Services Division. In this role, you will travel to customer facilities worldwide to install, commission, start up, and optimize industrial baking and exact mixing systems, including ovens, dryers, conveying systems, and automated ingredient handling and mixing equipment.

This role is focused on project installation and startup support — ensuring newly installed equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably through the warranty and commissioning period. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on field work, solving technical challenges, and working directly with customers to fine-tune systems until the equipment is performing at its highest level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and commission industrial baking equipment and exact mixing systems at customer facilities
  • Support equipment startup, testing, operational verification, and performance optimization
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, combustion, and controls-related startup issues
  • Work closely with customers and internal teams to ensure equipment achieves production, quality, and safety expectations
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, relay logic, and operator interface systems during startup and commissioning
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and wiring diagrams
  • Perform field modifications, alignments, adjustments, and system calibrations as needed during installation
  • Calibrate and fine-tune ovens, dryers, mixers, and ingredient handling systems for optimal performance
  • Train and support customer personnel during installation and startup activities
  • Complete detailed commissioning, startup, and service documentation using Microsoft Office and company software
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and customer teams to resolve installation and operational challenges
  • Follow all company and customer safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout procedures
QualificationsRequired
  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3+ years of industrial equipment installation, commissioning, or startup experience
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings
  • Experience with TIG, MIG, and stick welding
  • Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, and industrial control systems
  • Ability to travel extensively, including international travel and extended assignments
  • Must possess a valid passport and be eligible for unrestricted domestic and international travel
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record to operate rental or company fleet vehicles
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in customer-facing environments
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification
Additional Experience Valued
  • Experience with industrial ovens, baking systems, or ingredient handling equipment
  • Familiarity with Reading Bakery Systems and exact mixing equipment
  • Combustion system troubleshooting experience
  • PLC programming or modification experience
  • Background in food manufacturing or industrial baking operations
Work Environment
  • Extensive domestic and international travel required
  • Work performed in industrial manufacturing and bakery production environments
  • Exposure to heat, noise, moving machinery, and vibration
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds and work in confined or elevated spaces as needed
 Why Join Reading Bakery Systems?

At RBS, you’ll work with industry-leading technology and support some of the world’s largest bakery manufacturers. Our Installation Technicians play a critical role in bringing complex baking systems to life — ensuring equipment is installed, commissioned, and operating at peak performance before handoff to the customer. If you enjoy hands-on technical work, travel, and solving complex challenges, we encourage you to apply.
