JOB SUMMARY
Instructors provide high-quality instruction that supports student learning and fosters a positive learning environment in the classroom. The primary responsibility is teaching and evaluating students in assigned courses. Instruction is delivered on-site throughout the college's five-county service area and may also be offered through online teaching formats. Instructors communicate with students outside of class and perform a variety of administrative duties, including committee work, assessment, registration, and advising.
The Social Work Program Coordinator role builds upon these instructional responsibilities by contributing to the academic excellence and institutional success of Cleveland State Community College through leadership in social work education. This includes providing high-quality instruction, student advising, and ongoing program development. The coordinator ensures alignment with CSWE (Council on Social Work Education) standards and core social work competencies, supports community partners and field supervisors, and strengthens pathways that support student transfer and matriculation into BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) programs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in Social Work with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in qualifying coursework.
- Valid driver's license.
The educational requirements listed for this position reflect the qualifications for the rank of Instructor. An appointee may be appointed at a higher academic rank provided the individual meets the minimum education and experience requirements established by the Tennessee Board of Regents, including any future revisions to those requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan and teach classes as assigned in accordance with course descriptions, course syllabi, departmental guidelines, and approved instructional formats, including on-site instruction throughout the college's five-county service area and online delivery as applicable.
- Fulfill all instructional requirements required by Cleveland State Community College and the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR).
- Remain current in the instructional field and in effective teaching methodologies.
- Devote a minimum of 37.5 hours per week to the institution, maintain appropriate office hours, and obtain approval for any commitments that may affect employment responsibilities.
- Be accessible to students for advising, academic assistance, and support based on the instructional format.
- Participate in institutional and academic unit meetings.
- Maintain and safeguard all required records and report grades as prescribed by the Registrar.
- Comply with Cleveland State Community College and Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures.
- Participate in division, student, and academic year evaluations as required by the college.
- Support and participate in the college's recruitment and retention efforts.
Social Work Program Coordinator Responsibilities
- Meet program core competencies established by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and support student achievement of credentialing standards required by CSWE-accredited four-year Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programs.
- Note: Two-year programs are not accredited by CSWE.
- Maintain and update field education partnerships and coordinate field education orientation for all Social Work students.
- Evaluate student performance using a variety of course assessment strategies while maintaining and safeguarding all required academic records. Collect, analyze, and report student learning outcome data, in collaboration with Institutional Research (IR), to support Assessment of Academic Achievement and Curriculum (AOAC) processes.
- Represent Cleveland State Community College in social work education by participating in local and regional advisory groups and professional meetings, including but not limited to SETNIAC (Southeast Tennessee Interagency Council), the UTC College of Social Work Advisory Council, the SAU (Southern Adventist University) College of Social Work Advisory Council, and the Bradley County Schools CTE (Career and Technical Education) Human Services Advisory Council.
- Build and sustain partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders through marketing initiatives, advisory board participation, field placement coordination, and student recruitment events.
Non-Essential Functions
- Instructors will be required to meet standards now required or which may be required by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC).
- May be required to achieve additional skill, knowledge, or credentialing levels.
- Perform public service and community engagement activities consistent with the institution's mission and service area.
- Support, promote, and serve as an advisor to campus clubs, student organizations, and other related student activities as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Proficiency in computer-related skills necessary for job performance, including instructional and administrative technologies.
- Preferred experience:
