Duties
Help
You will serve as a Public Affairs Specialist and be responsible for for planning, coordinating, and implementing communication strategies designed to build understanding, credibility, trust, and mutually beneficial relationships with the New York publics who the Coast Guard serves.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Engages and communicates with the media, public, and stakeholder groups, and planning outreach events to garner support for Coast Guard roles, missions, and operations.
• Plans, coordinates, and implements communication strategies designed to build understanding, credibility, trust, and mutually beneficial relationships with the New York publics who the Coast Guard serves.
• Passes information to the public and media is accurate and approved by the Command.
• Support district/HQ social media campaigns with imagery, graphics, and video.
• Takes initiative and creates New York specific campaigns to tap unreached demographics and publics.

Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

• Experience in managing social media, understanding trends, emerging tools, and new medium to communicate with target audience.
• Experience developing written, online, and social media informational materials such as news, operational highlights, photos, and press releases.
• Experience drafting responses to general public inquiries and requests, developing guidance and talking points for interviews.
