What is a work from home field service engineer?

A Work From Home Field Service Engineer is a technical professional who provides installation, maintenance, and repair services for various equipment or systems, but operates remotely rather than from a traditional office or customer site. They often use digital tools to provide remote support, troubleshoot issues, and guide clients or on-site personnel through repairs. These engineers may also travel occasionally to client locations if hands-on service is required. The role typically requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication, as much of the job involves assisting customers virtually.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a work from home field service engineer?

Flexibility and adaptability are key, as your daily tasks can shift quickly based on customer priorities and field requirements.

Job description

Cullerton Group has an exciting opportunity for a CNC Field Service Engineer. This is a permanent remote-based position with a strong preference for candidates located in Ohio or Michigan, particularly within the Columbus–Cleveland–Detroit region.
Candidates can work remotely from home but must be comfortable traveling up to 80% to customer sites, with all travel expenses reimbursed. Pay starts at $40/hr W2, with consistent overtime opportunities (15–20 hours every two weeks) paid at $60/hr. Overnight travel also includes an additional 2 hours of straight-time pay per hotel stay, providing significant additional earning potential on top of full benefits.
Our customer is a Swiss-based manufacturer specializing in high-precision CNC grinding machines for cutting tools, medical instruments, and other precision components.
We are seeking a skilled and adaptable CNC Field Service Engineer to perform technical field service and after-sales support for CNC tool and cutter grinding machines. This position requires a hands-on professional with strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems both on-site and remotely.

Key Responsibilities: Perform field service and maintenance on CNC grinding machinery, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Troubleshoot equipment issues and provide support to customers by phone, email, and onsite visits. Install CNC grinding machines at customer facilities across North America. Interpret and work from electrical, mechanical, and technical drawings to support repairs and part identification. Provide detailed maintenance guidance and technical assistance to customers.

Qualifications: Strong mechanical aptitude with a "hands-on" approach to technical challenges. Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics. Familiarity with electrical and fluid power circuits preferred. Willingness to learn CNC tool grinding technology and machine controls. Proficient in Microsoft Office and CNC control systems. Must be comfortable with extensive travel (up to 80%) across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. This full-time role offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
