Position Summary

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in someone’s life? We are seeking compassionate and dependable individuals to serve as Sponsored Residential / Sponsor Home Providers in Virginia. This role offers a unique opportunity to open your home and heart to support an individual with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

Sponsored Residential Providers play an essential role in helping individuals live fulfilling lives in the community by providing daily support, supervision, encouragement, and stability. This position is ideal for someone who values service, enjoys helping others, and is committed to promoting independence and dignity.

Key Responsibilities

As a Sponsored Residential / Sponsor Home Provider, you will:

  • Provide a safe, supportive, and welcoming home environment
  • Assist the individual with daily living activities, such as hygiene, meal preparation, and household routines
  • Support participation in community activities, social events, and recreational opportunities
  • Provide transportation to medical appointments, day programs, employment, and other community services
  • Promote skill-building and independence in areas such as:
    • personal care
    • budgeting and money management
    • cooking and cleaning
    • communication and social skills
  • Assist with medication support as trained and authorized
  • Monitor health, safety, and overall well-being
  • Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and reports as required
  • Follow the individual’s Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and agency guidelines
  • Communicate regularly with the care team, family/guardian, and agency staff
  • Support the individual during emergencies and ensure safety protocols are followed

Qualifications

  • A stable, clean, and safe home environment
  • A caring, patient, and respectful approach to supporting others
  • Ability to provide consistent supervision and structure
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet Virginia licensing requirements
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license (preferred/required depending on placement)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience in caregiving, mental health, or developmental disability services is preferred 

Minimum Requirements (Virginia Compliance Expectations)

All Sponsor Homes must be able to meet applicable Virginia Sponsored Residential guidelines, which may include:

  • Home inspection approval
  • Completion of required trainings
  • Background screening and TB testing
  • Compliance with licensing/certification standards
  • Completion of documentation and service-related requirements
