Job Title: Pharmacy Operations Manager

Our Pharmacy team plays an essential role in supporting safe and effective treatment for our patients while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
Position Overview:
The Pharmacy Operations Manager manages the technical operations of pharmacy workflow and ensures accurate and prompt dispensing of drug therapy for West Cancer Center patients. Primary responsibilities include leadership of pharmacy technician staff, preparation of chemotherapeutic intravenous admixtures, technical training for pharmacy staff, administration of operational department competencies, and assistance with special projects and initiatives.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage pharmacy technician staff and students, including workflow, performance reviews, and corrective action
- Monitor team members' progress and performance of daily responsibilities
- Develop and assess the progress of new technician hires during their training period, providing feedback and additional instruction as necessary
- Provide annual hazardous drug training and coaching to pharmacy technicians engaged in medication preparation and admixing for infusion and specialty pharmacies
- Provide hands-on training to new employees, demonstrating proper admixing techniques, workflows, and best practices in the pharmacy setting
- Serve as an internal operations subject matter expert (SME) for new-hire pharmacy staff
- Coordinate with pharmacy department leadership to align training with departmental goals
- Work under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy to ensure pharmacy staff meet yearly and/or biannual education and competency requirements
- Provide advanced problem-solving, troubleshooting, technical assistance, and instruction to pharmacy technicians under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy
- Work independently by effectively operating automated dispensing cabinets and calculating, compounding, and verifying drug orders
- Effectively communicate with providers, nurses, and pharmacists to verify orders and/or request changes
- Assure the delivery of quality products and services and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Recommend procedural changes for workflow improvement processes
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements and readiness as assigned
- Assist in infusion pharmacy and specialty pharmacy workflows as needed
- Maintain all necessary logs as needed
- Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients
- Maintain a good attendance record and report to work on time
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance
- Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, professional contacts with colleagues, professional development courses, and training and/or courses as directed by the Director of Pharmacy or Pharmacy Leadership
- Be available after hours during instances of power outages to help secure medications and avoid extreme temperature excursions
- Demonstrate strong communication skills that contribute to a team-oriented work environment
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare management/leadership or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of oncology IV mixing and retail pharmacy-related experience and/or training, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- PTCB certification or equivalent
- State Board of Pharmacy registration in Tennessee
Preferred:
- Completion of an accredited compounding pharmacy technician certification program
- State Board of Pharmacy registration in Mississippi

- Typical clinical environment with a moderate noise level
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands/wrists, climb or balance, talk, hear, and see for extended periods of time

- Ability to calculate weight-based dosing and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables in routine situations
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Physical activities may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion
- Must have good balance and coordination
- Close visual acuity is required for activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, measuring accurate doses in syringes, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
- May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions
- Travel and extended hours may be required
