What does a WMS analyst do?

A WMS analyst is responsible for testing and validating Warehouse Management Systems to ensure they function correctly and meet business requirements. They analyze system workflows, identify issues, and collaborate with IT and logistics teams to implement improvements, often using testing tools and documentation standards. Their work helps optimize warehouse operations and data accuracy.

What are some typical challenges faced during WMS Testing and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge in WMS (Warehouse Management System) Testing is ensuring that the system integrates smoothly with existing ERP and inventory management platforms. Testers often encounter issues with data synchronization, workflow accuracy, and real-time inventory tracking. Addressing these challenges involves creating comprehensive test cases for various warehouse scenarios, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and using automation tools to validate complex processes. Regular communication with stakeholders and end-users also helps in identifying gaps early and refining the testing strategy.

How to become a WMS analyst?

To become a WMS analyst, candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field. Relevant skills include knowledge of warehouse management systems, data analysis, and proficiency with tools like SQL or Excel; certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) can also enhance prospects.

Are QA testers in demand in 2026?

WMS testing and QA testing roles are expected to remain in demand in 2026 due to ongoing growth in supply chain technology and the need for quality assurance in software and warehouse management systems. Skills in automation tools, scripting, and understanding of logistics processes will enhance job prospects. Continuous learning and certifications can improve employability in this evolving field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a WMS Testing professional, and why are they important?

To excel in WMS (Warehouse Management System) Testing, you need a solid understanding of warehouse operations, software testing methodologies, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with WMS platforms (like Manhattan, SAP EWM, or Oracle WMS), test automation tools, and scripting languages is highly valuable, as are certifications in software testing (e.g., ISTQB). Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help testers collaborate with cross-functional teams and identify issues efficiently. These skills ensure the delivery of reliable, high-performing WMS solutions that optimize warehouse processes and support business objectives.

Job description

Overview

This role is at the heart of our warehouse technology ecosystem, providing hands-on production support, continuous improvement delivery, and cross-functional partnership across Manhattan Associates WMOS, Lucas Voice Picking, Dematic WCS, and integrated parcel carrier systems.

About the Role

You'll be a key member of our Logistics Systems team, serving as a technical expert across our WMS environment — diagnosing and resolving production issues, writing SQL to investigate system behavior, configuring and testing new capabilities, and partnering with software vendors to deliver solutions. You'll work closely with operations, technology, and leadership teams to communicate issue status and drive resolution, while also supporting project work ranging from carrier integrations to layout changes to process improvements.

This is a hands-on role that blends deep technical skill with strong communication and business partnership. You'll support a two-shift, seven-day-a-week distribution operation and participate in an on-call rotation, so a bias toward urgency and clear, timely communication is essential.
