Job description

Position Summary... What you'll do...As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be a hands-on technical leader who designs and delivers critical distributed services, raises engineering standards, and drives operational excellence. You’ll work closely with product managers and partner teams, lead technical design discussions, and mentor engineers while owning delivery for complex features end-to-end
About Team:
The Fulfillment Engineering team is a strong, globally distributed group building and operating Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for Walmart’s rapidly expanding U.S. eCommerce Fulfillment Center (FC) network. Our platforms power High Velocity Fulfillment Centers and Next Generation Automated Fulfillment Centers—among the largest and most advanced fulfillment operations in the world.
We’re accelerating growth with a platform-first mindset: a shared, cloud-first, distributed-systems foundation that unlocks reuse, improves reliability, and enables fulfillment capabilities to ship at scale and speed. Our FCs also power Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), one of Walmart’s fastest-growing businesses—offering deep exposure to supply chain and fulfillment operations at unmatched scale.
What you'll do:
  • Lead design and implementation of highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable microservices and event-driven systems (Java-based)
  • Own end-to-end delivery for complex features: design, implementation, testing, rollout, and long-term operability
  • Set a high bar for operational excellence: telemetry, alerting, incident response, root cause analysis, and prevention
  • Drive technical direction in your area: architecture decisions, reliability improvements, performance tuning, and tech-debt reduction
  • Produce high-quality code and raising team quality via PR reviews, design reviews, and engineering best practices
  • Collaborate deeply with product and business stakeholders to break down ambiguity into executable plans and milestones

What you'll bring:
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience (or equivalent depth), preferably in Java
  • Strong experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, and messaging systems (Kafka or similar)
  • Strong Azure experience (including CosmosDB)
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL datastores
  • Proven production ownership: on-call, diagnostics, performance tuning, and reliability improvements in distributed systems
  • Strong system design skills and experience operating in fast-paced Agile delivery environments
  • Supply chain / fulfillment domain knowledge (WMS/WES/FC operations exposure is a plus)
  • Ability to leverage AI tooling/agents to accelerate development and troubleshooting
  • A strong ownership mindset—able to independently drive solutions from problem statement to production outcomes
