What is a witness protection program?

A Witness Protection Program job involves safeguarding witnesses who are at risk due to their testimony in criminal cases. Professionals in this role work to provide security, new identities, housing, and logistical support to protected individuals. Their primary goal is to ensure the safety of witnesses and their families while maintaining confidentiality.

Job description

ABOUT HUT 8

Imagine the ultimate destination for those who want to work at the cutting edge of technology, energy, and infrastructure. Hut 8 is on a mission to build and operate some of the world's largest data centers for next-generation computing workloads, including AI, Colocation, Cloud, and Bitcoin Mining. We are proud to offer interesting and challenging opportunities for individuals who want to build teams, solve problems, and make an impact from day one. If you're an ambitious individual looking for a career that is as rewarding as it is challenging, you've come to the right place.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Electrical SME is Managed Services' electrical expert embedded in a data center build - supporting design review and commissioning witness to ensure electrical systems are operable and maintainable at turnover. The electrical system is the facility's spine; this role makes sure it can be operated, switched, and maintained safely by the team inheriting it.

Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:

Operability Design Review

Review electrical designs - MV/LV distribution, generator plants, UPS systems, EPMS - for operability: maintenance access and working clearances, switching practicality and arc-flash exposure during real operating procedures, redundancy behavior under maintenance conditions, and labeling/mimic clarity. Push back where the design assumes maintenance that can't safely be performed.

Construction - Phase Verification

Walk electrical installations at key milestones: equipment setting and clearances, terminations and torque documentation, grounding, and cable management quality - flagging operability and quality issues to the MEP superintendent early.

Testing & Commissioning Witness

Witness NETA acceptance testing and Level 3-5 commissioning: protective device testing, generator and UPS transfer sequences, load bank testing, pull-the-plug scenarios, and integrated systems testing. Drive operational findings into the Cx log and verify closure.

Turnover Readiness

Verify electrical turnover packages: test records and settings files, one-lines and as-builts, arc-flash labels matching final studies, spare breakers and critical spares, PM program inputs, and switching procedures. Confirm operator training covers real switching and emergency scenarios.

Energization & Early Operations

Support energization sequences and early operations stabilization: alarm and EPMS tuning input, operating procedure refinement, and first-months troubleshooting with the operations team.

Program Feedback

Feed operational lessons into Hut 8 electrical standards and future basis-of-design decisions.

ABOUT YOU

-      What we're looking for:

- 8+ years in critical facilities electrical operations, commissioning, or NETA-adjacent field roles.

- Deep knowledge of MV/LV switchgear, protective devices, generator and UPS systems, and EPMS/power monitoring.

- Commissioning witness experience through integrated systems testing in mission-critical environments.

- NFPA 70E fluency and real switching/LOTO experience - you've operated the gear, not just reviewed it.

- NETA testing literacy: you can read the reports critically and catch what's missing.

- Maintainability instincts in design review: clearances, access, and safe isolation paths.

- Turnover documentation rigor, especially settings files and test records.

- Electrical license, military power background (Navy nuke/Air Force power pro), or engineering degree all welcome paths.

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Full-time on-site based role.
