What is a wireless job?

Wireless jobs refer to positions that involve working with wireless communication technologies, such as cellular networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other radio frequency systems. These roles can include network engineers, technicians, sales specialists, and support staff who design, install, maintain, or sell wireless products and services. Wireless professionals are employed by telecommunications companies, equipment manufacturers, and IT firms, among others. The field is dynamic and constantly evolving, offering opportunities in both technical and non-technical areas.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wireless network engineer?

To thrive as a Wireless Network Engineer, you need a solid understanding of wireless networking protocols, RF principles, and network security, typically supported by a degree in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with tools like Wireshark, Cisco or Aruba wireless systems, and certifications such as CWNA or Cisco CCNA Wireless are highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and effective communication set top performers apart in this field. These skills are essential for designing, deploying, and maintaining reliable wireless networks that support business operations and user connectivity.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in wireless network roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in wireless network roles often encounter challenges such as signal interference, security vulnerabilities, and rapid technology changes. Addressing these requires staying updated with the latest industry standards, conducting regular site surveys to optimize coverage, and implementing strong encryption protocols to safeguard data. Collaboration with IT security teams and ongoing training are essential to ensure reliable and secure wireless connectivity in dynamic environments.

Job description

Senior Embedded Systems Engineer (Wireless Product Development) About the Role

As an Embedded Systems Engineer at PassiveLogic, you’ll co-lead the development of our suite of wireless products, from zero to manufacture. You’ll collaborate closely with the electrical, mechanical, industrial design, and verification/validation (V&V) teams to deliver robust, innovative solutions. This role demands a disciplined, independent leader with stellar embedded software skills, a systems-level mindset and the ability to self-teach and solve tough problems. You will contribute to shaping the product vision, drive its execution, and ensure it meets our standards for quality and efficiency.

About PassiveLogic®

PassiveLogic is the first fully autonomous platform for buildings. We’ve reinvented the fundamental principles of automation to democratize technology, optimize buildings, and reduce the world’s carbon footprint. We are a team of technologists, engineers, and creatives dedicated to making a sustainable impact through real-world solutions.

We are looking for team members who have a passion for technology and who want to work on cutting‑edge problems with real‑world solutions. Our culture is built on bringing together the most talented engineers, thinkers, and creatives—backed by the world’s leading investors—working together to make the future a reality.

What you’ll do

Develop embedded systems: Lead the end-to-end development of ultra-low-power wireless devices, from architecture design to high-volume production. Write and optimize production-ready C code for embedded systems running TI-RTOS and Zephyr RTOS.

Develop proprietary sub-Gig wireless protocol: Lead the architecture, implementation, and refinement of a custom sub-GHz wireless protocol. Evaluate technical tradeoffs present throughout the development process.

Optimization and systems engineering: Apply math and physics expertise for power accounting and systems-of-systems optimization in resource-constrained environments.

Test and validate embedded systems: Design and implement HIL/SIL testing frameworks to validate robust, fail-safe code before V&V handoff. Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and industrial design teams to maintain product visionalignment.

Develop software and version control: Leverage Git for version control, maintaining clean, modular codebases and streamlined team workflows; Use Python, Bash, and Linux to automate workflows, analyze data, and enhance development processes.

Integrate hardware and debug software: Perform hands‑on board bring‑up and system debugging to integrate hardware and software seamlessly.

What you’ll bring

You Must Have

Proven Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field—or proven exceptional ability through experience.

  • 6+ years in embedded software development, with deep expertise in C and real-time operating systems (TI-RTOS, Zephyr RTOS).

  • Proficiency in Git for version control, collaboration, and maintaining high-quality codebases.

  • Strong skills in Python, Bash, and Linux for scripting and system management.

  • Track record of delivering high-quality, production-grade code with rigorous HIL/SIL testing.

  • Strong systems-level thinking for ultra-low-power wireless designs, backed by solid math and physics fundamentals.

Exceptional Communication Skills: An ability to document/communicate clearly to effectively lead, mentor, and align teams.

Organized and Strategic: An organized, structured approach to complex project leadership and an enthusiasm for owning work within the context of the big picture.

Collaborative Mindset: You thrive in cross-disciplinary teams, knowing the best hardware is built when everyone’s brainpower is in the mix.

Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment, eager to learn, iterate, and innovate.

Problem solving: You own this role. When issues arise, be the empowered force that solves them, rolling‑up to product management and leadership.

A self-driven curious mindset: Able to independently research, learn, and solve complex challenges. Experiencewith (or a desire to explore) setting up and deploying AI-assisted testing systems is a bonus.

You should have

  • Experience with schematic capture and board layout using Altium.

  • Familiarity with engineering design and analysis using spreadsheets (e.g., power budgeting, system modeling).

  • Knowledge of ultra-low-power wireless protocols (e.g., IEEE 802.15.4, BLE, 900MHz)

  • Familiarity with RF design and compliance testing.

It’s helpful to have

  • Familiarity with the startup environment.

  • Experience interfacing with overseas vendors and supporting the manufacturing process.
