Network Engineer - Field Support
Employment Type: Contract (with possible extension)
Location: Central Florida (Primary office location is Riverview; field travel required)
Work Model: Predominantly onsite (typically 3 days/week; may increase to 5 based on operational needs)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Network Engineer - Field Support to provide hands-on network engineering and troubleshooting across multiple industrial and operational sites. This role is focused on physical network infrastructure, onsite deployments, and field-based support, rather than remote-only network administration.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in industrial environments, is highly self-sufficient in the field, and brings strong experience with Cisco networking technologies, firewall platforms, and onsite troubleshooting.
Environment & Scope
  • Support multiple facilities including industrial plants and operational sites
  • Facilities vary from clean, modern buildings to harsh industrial and mining environments
  • Heavy Cisco-based network environment, including:
    • Cisco switches and routers
    • Cisco wireless access points
    • Check Point firewalls
    • Poly video conferencing systems
  • Work closely with an internal team and a Managed Service Provider (MSP)
Key Responsibilities
Field-Based Network Support
  • Perform onsite network troubleshooting, maintenance, and hardware replacement
  • Conduct structured cabling cleanup, cable management, and labeling
  • Replace aging or failed switches and network hardware
  • Inspect wiring, validate connectivity, and resolve physical-layer issues
  • Configure and deploy new network infrastructure to replace legacy equipment
Network Engineering & Operations
  • Engineer, configure, and deploy routers, Layer 2/Layer 3 switches, firewalls, and WLAN infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving routing, switching, wireless, and firewall functionality
  • Perform post-deployment testing to ensure network availability and performance
  • Monitor and analyze network performance metrics such as latency, throughput, packet loss, and jitter
Wireless & Collaboration Support
  • Replace and deploy wireless access points, including ceiling-mounted installations
  • Support and troubleshoot video conferencing and collaboration systems
  • Assist onsite users with basic network-related troubleshooting and connectivity issues
Documentation, Standards & Collaboration
  • Develop and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and operational runbooks
  • Follow established architecture standards, security baselines, and change-management processes
  • Collaborate with internal teams, MSP partners, and vendors to resolve issues and deliver projects
  • Coordinate daily activities and prioritize tasks across multiple sites
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
Experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering or field network support
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, or operational environments preferred
  • Proven ability to work independently in remote or non-office locations
Technical Skills
  • Stronghands-on experience with:
    • Cisco routing and switching
    • Cisco wireless infrastructure
    • Check Point firewalls
    • WAN, LAN, and WLAN technologies
  • Experience replacing, deploying, and validating onsite network hardware
  • Familiarity with VoIP and video conferencing platforms
  • Ability to perform packet captures, log analysis, and structured troubleshooting
