Job description

Manage and develop a world class team of wireless communication systems engineers at Amazon Leo. This is a multi-faceted team of engineers that covers a wide range of expertise such as RF systems, physical layer and DSP, MAC scheduler and Radio Resource Management layer, 3GPP protocol stack design and development, machine learning and AI. This team acts as the focal point of all innovation of new technology, design and development of Amazon Leo's Low Earth Satellite based communication network.
This team is also responsible for participating in standards organization such as 3GPP, O-RAN, etc.
Key job responsibilities
• Hire and develop top wireless communication systems talent
• Manage the systems team responsible for developing new technology, solutions and algorithms
and requirements pertaining to L1, L2 and L3 of a wireless communication and PNT network
• Manage the development of system level and link level simulation platforms
• Develop end to end system architecture for wireless NTN networks in FR1 and FR2 and develop
system level requirements
• Publish and maintain implementation level specification for the HW/SW development.
• Define test cases for the integration and verification of end-to-end communication systems
• Support the development and integration of payload and ground software for LEO
communication networks
• Define system test cases and test vectors for verification and validation
• Manage the participation in SDO such as 3GP, O-RAN etc.
• Assess future technologies, trends, and internal innovations to drive next generation solutions
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
About the team
This is a unique opportunity to define a groundbreaking solution with few legacy constraints. The team will be responsible for designing and implementing technology that are foundational to broadband satellite communications systems, customer experience, key design criteria (like overall customer bandwidth, power consumption, and costs), and meeting systems requirements specifications for space and ground. This is an opportunity to develop and manage a world-class IC development team while being part of a team developing a full solution including satellites, highly efficiency communications solutions, and customer solutions.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- 5+ years of management experience
- 10+ years of experience wireless technology development
- 3+ years of managing a team of wireless communication system engineering
- Experience on leading a team for systems research and design for 3GPP systems such as 4G LTE, 5G NR
- Good communication skills along with writing documents, specification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's / PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
- In depth understanding of Multiple access systems such as OFDMA, TDMA, CDMA, etc.
- Experience in the development and standardization of 3GPP technologies such as 4G LTE and 5G NR
- Deep understating of wireless modem L1/L2 algorithms.
- Experience developing QoS solution in a packet based wireless system.
- Broad spectrum of knowledge to be able to understand end-to-end network system architecture from wireless physical layer all the way up to application end-point.
- Experience in the development of link and system level simulators using Matlab/Python/C++.
- Must have the ability to work in a small team and drive to go beyond expectations to deliver results.
- Ideal candidate has a wireless communication systems or digital signal processing background, a passion for building real-world carrier-grade communication systems

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
