Job description

Patent Prosecution Agent

Locations: Dallas, TX | Denver, CO | Houston, TX | New York, NY | Orange County, CA | Palo Alto, CA | San Francisco, CA | Washington, DC
Experience: 3+ years

Direct Counsel is seeking a highly qualified Patent Prosecution Agent with at least 3 full years of patent prosecution experience to join the Intellectual Property practice of a leading Am Law firm. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and experience supporting sophisticated patent portfolios for Fortune 200 clients.

Position Highlights
  • At least 3 full years of patent prosecution experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering required

  • Additional academic credentials in materials science, physics, or other engineering disciplines will also be considered

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  • Strong technical expertise and/or patent prosecution experience involving LTE/5G/6G wireless networks, computer hardware, artificial intelligence, and deep learning

  • Ability to analyze complex technologies and work directly with inventors and in-house counsel

  • Experience developing and managing strategic patent portfolios

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications

  • Conduct inventor interviews and collaborate with clients to identify and protect innovative technologies

  • Prepare office action responses, conduct examiner interviews, and draft other prosecution-related documents

  • Support the development and management of domestic and international patent portfolios

  • Monitor emerging technologies and developments in patent law relevant to client industries

  • Work under partner-level supervision and mentoring while developing sophisticated patent prosecution strategies

Compensation

$150,000–$250,000 base salary, depending on experience, education, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits.
