Job description

Introduction:

As a rolling operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating square wire and shape wire machinery within the department. The rate of pay for this role is $27.50/hr depending on experience. There will be training on first shift before moving permantently to second shift position from 2pm - 10pm. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sets up and operates square wire and shape wire machinery.
  • Utilizes appropriate tools such as edge rolls, turkshead, flat rolls, dies, and shape rolls to achieve required product shape and finish.
  • Conducts quality checks using various measuring devices to ensure compliance with internal and customer specifications.
  • Maintains meticulous records and completes all necessary paperwork related to quality control and submit samples to QC as required.
  • Provides training to other operators when required, ensuring team competency and efficiency.
  • Conducts safety and quality checks on equipment, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
  • Opeprate multiple machines simultaneously, adapting to changing operational requirements.
  • Operates overhead cranes by dragging it to specific areas with reels.
  • Ability to learn the annealing process.
  • Run furnaces to soften material.
  • Run rolling machinery and spooling machines for necessary material.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

SKILLS:

  • Basic computer functions for data entry purposes.
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Must be able to work first shift initially and potentially second shift.
  • Must be able to work overtime.
  • Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Wire drawing and annealing experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires repetitive motions such as walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, as well as feeling, seeing, talking, and hearing.
  • Ability to work around metal powders and nickels.
  • Ability to wear a respirator while conducting job duties.
  • Ability to work around and on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be willing to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Required to work in a production area.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The production area is not climate controlled.
