Job Title: OPGW Machine Operator
Position Summary
The OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) Machine Operator is responsible for operating rewinding equipment used in the processing and preparation of wire products. This position supports production activities by performing rewinding operations, maintaining product quality, and assisting the Strander Operator with machine setup, operation, and production tasks as needed. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate OPGW rewinding equipment in accordance with established production procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform rewinding of wire products to specified lengths, tensions, and quality requirements.
  • Inspect wire during rewinding operations to identify defects, damage, or irregularities.
  • Monitor machine performance and make minor adjustments to ensure proper operation.
  • Assist the Strander Operator with machine setup, changeovers, threading, and production runs.
  • Help load and unload reels, spools, and raw materials using appropriate equipment.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including reel counts, footage, and quality documentation.
  • Conduct routine housekeeping and keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality standards, and work instructions.
  • Support production goals by working efficiently and assisting other operators as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and product quality.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing, wire processing, cable production, or machine operating experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand production specifications, work orders, and quality requirements.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required.
  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery and production equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as required by production demands.
