Plant Vehicle Engineering Technician, Electrical Systems & Harness Support
Warsaw, IN • On-site
Full-time

Job description
At Slate, we're building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and love-and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.
| WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Slate is looking for a hands-on Plant Vehicle Engineering Technician, Electrical Systems & Harness Support to support launch readiness, production quality, and issue resolution for low-voltage systems, high-voltage electrical interfaces, and vehicle harness applications in the manufacturing plant.
This role supports Plant Vehicle Engineering by providing hands-on troubleshooting, inspection, repair validation, and build support for vehicle electrical systems, connectors, terminals, harness routing, grounds, power distribution, modules, and related electrical interfaces.
The position focuses on plant execution, vehicle triage, and physical electrical issue resolution. It does not own electrical design release, but it plays a critical role in identifying build, routing, connector, terminal, continuity, isolation, workmanship, and installation issues that may impact vehicle quality, function, safety, or launch readiness.
| WORK AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.
| WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
Electrical Systems & Harness Support
- Support launch and ongoing production of low-voltage systems, high-voltage interfaces, and vehicle harness applications in a manufacturing plant environment.
- Troubleshoot harness routing, connector engagement, pin fit, terminal damage, continuity, shorts, opens, grounds, chafing, water intrusion, and electrical interface concerns.
- Inspect installation quality, including retention, clipping, branch routing, bend radius, strain relief, connector seating, sealing, shielding, and protection from damage during assembly.
- Support high-voltage harness and component interface checks related to routing, connector seating, HVIL continuity, isolation concerns, cable damage, retention, shielding, labeling, and installation quality where authorized and trained.
Vehicle Triage & Repair Validation
- Support vehicle-level electrical triage for no-start, no-communication, DTCs, lighting, sensors, switches, modules, charging, power distribution, low-voltage functionality, and high-voltage system interface concerns.
- Use diagnostic tools, multimeter, scan tools, breakout leads, schematics, connector views, pinout information, insulation/isolation test equipment where authorized, and plant test results to support issue investigation.
- Document findings clearly, including photos, fault details, suspected root cause, repair actions, connector or harness condition, and validation results.
- Support containment, quality alerts, repair instructions, breakpoint confirmation, teardown activities, and corrective action validation.
Launch & Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with Plant Vehicle Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Production, Suppliers, Service, and Vehicle Integration to resolve plant electrical issues.
- Support prototype, pilot, and production ramp builds by identifying recurring harness, connector, low-voltage, and high-voltage installation defects early.
- Provide feedback into harness routing, connector access, serviceability, work instructions, inspection standards, repair procedures, and plant diagnostic processes.
| WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
Education and Experience
- 3+ years of automotive electrical, vehicle diagnostics, harness assembly, manufacturing, service, launch, or related hands-on technical experience.
- Associate degree, technical certification, automotive electrical training, EV high-voltage training, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
- Experience reading wiring diagrams, schematics, connector views, pinouts, electrical repair procedures, diagnostic information, and quality standards.
- High-voltage safety training, EV technician certification, or ability to complete company-required high-voltage qualification required.
Skills
- Strong hands-on understanding of vehicle electrical systems, including low-voltage circuits, harness routing, connectors, terminals, grounds, fuses, relays, sensors, switches, modules, and power distribution.
- Working knowledge of high-voltage vehicle systems, including HV harness routing, HV connectors, HVIL, isolation concepts, shielding, cable protection, and safe work practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot shorts, opens, high resistance, terminal pushout, pin fit, connector damage, routing concerns, intermittent electrical faults, HVIL concerns, and harness installation issues.
- Experience using DVOMs, scan tools, diagnostic software, breakout tools, harness repair tools, terminal tools, and basic electrical test equipment.
- Ability to follow high-voltage safety procedures, escalation requirements, lockout/tagout expectations, and company-authorized work practices.
- Ability to inspect and document build quality concerns clearly and communicate with engineers, technicians, production teams, quality teams, and suppliers.
- Ability to work on the plant floor more than 75% of the time; flexibility to support launch builds, urgent production issues, teardown activities, and hands-on repair validation.
- Ability to travel domestically up to 10-20%. Must be willing to relocate to Warsaw, Indiana. Relocation assistance will be provided.
