A WIOA job refers to employment opportunities supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), a federal program designed to help job seekers access education, training, and employment services. WIOA-funded programs aim to assist individuals, including displaced workers and those with barriers to employment, in gaining the skills needed for in-demand careers. These jobs are often linked to workforce development initiatives, apprenticeships, and training partnerships.
As a WIOA Case Manager or Career Counselor, your day-to-day responsibilities include assessing clients' employment needs, developing individualized service plans, and connecting job seekers with training and job opportunities. You'll facilitate workshops, maintain case files, and monitor clients' progress toward employment goals, ensuring all program documentation is accurate and up-to-date. Regular collaboration with local employers, training providers, and community partners is also a key part of the role. This dynamic position offers the chance to make a direct impact on clients' career outcomes and to work as part of a supportive, mission-driven team.
To thrive as a WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) Career Counselor or Case Manager, you need experience in workforce development, career advising, and knowledge of labor market trends, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in human services, counseling, or a related field. Familiarity with case management software, client tracking systems, and government compliance reporting tools is essential. Strong interpersonal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to motivate diverse job seekers distinguish outstanding professionals in this role. These skills enable effective guidance and support for individuals seeking employment, ensuring program goals and compliance are met.
