What is a winter seasonal?

Winter seasonal jobs are temporary positions that are available primarily during the winter months. These roles often support industries that experience increased activity during winter, such as retail, hospitality, ski resorts, and holiday events. Examples include ski instructors, retail associates, resort staff, delivery drivers, and event coordinators. These jobs typically last from late fall through early spring, offering flexible opportunities for extra income or experience. They are ideal for students, travelers, or anyone seeking short-term employment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a winter seasonal worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Winter Seasonal Worker, you typically need physical stamina, reliability, and the ability to work in cold weather conditions, with prior experience in similar roles often preferred. Familiarity with equipment such as snow blowers, shovels, or ski lift machinery, and sometimes basic safety certifications like CPR, can be required depending on the specific position. Strong teamwork, communication, and adaptability are important soft skills for handling varying tasks and working efficiently in dynamic environments. These skills ensure both safety and productivity, enabling workers to meet the demands of peak winter operations.

What are some common challenges faced by winter seasonal employees, and how can they be addressed?

Winter Seasonal employees often face challenges such as adapting to rapidly changing weather conditions, managing physically demanding tasks, and adjusting to irregular work hours. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LAWN CARE SPECIALIST

Your primary responsibility is to be the face of our company in the field. You aren't just performing manual labor; you are managing a route and transforming landscapes across our service area. You will typically work 10-hour days, 4 days per week (with variations due to weather and customer needs). While most of the world is stuck behind a desk, your "office" changes daily. You'll navigate to residential and commercial properties, where you'll complete precision lawn care, lawn aeration, mowing, tree/shrub care and pruning, and mosquito control. You take pride in the "before and after," knowing that your work on a lawn and landscape directly enhances a customer's home and their pride in their property.

You are more than a technician; you are a consultant and a problem-solver. Because you work in a high-visibility role, you are the first person a customer sees when they have a question about their landscape. You use our provided training to assess lawn health and landscape needs, building a level of rapport that makes our customers feel like they have a "pro in the family." Whether you're explaining the benefits of aeration or discussing tree care, your ability to communicate clearly and kindly ensures our clients are happy, informed, and confident in the services you provide.

Adaptability is the heartbeat of this role. You are a specialist who moves with the seasons, ensuring our customers' properties are cared for year-round. When winter hits, you pivot to snow removal, ensuring our customers stay safe and mobile. This is a licensed specialist position, meaning you get to do the high-impact work of beautifying properties with the immediate need for state pesticide certifications.

Your most important responsibility is your own development. We don't expect you to walk in the door knowing the difference between species of turfgrass or the nuances of aeration timing-we expect you to be hungry to learn. You are part of a team that values "learning by doing." Whether you have previous experience as a general laborer, construction worker, landscaper, groundskeeper, or lawn mower, you bring a "can-do" attitude and a willingness to be coached. You are excited to grow your skills alongside a company that is excited to invest in your future.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Motivated with a desire to learn

Not sure if you're qualified? Relax! No lawn care or landscape experience is required, and we provide paid training! Are you passionate about working outdoors and helping people? If so, you could be perfect for this lawn and landscape position!
