Description

American Traveler is hiring an Emergency Room RN for a 12-hour night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of ED experience, charge experience, and prior travel experience.

Details
  • Emergency Department in a 25-bed critical access hospital, Trauma Level IV
  • Patient population ranges from newborn to geriatric, ages 0-100+
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
  • 3-4 RNs per shift with an ED tech available 24/7 and charge nurse assigned around the clock
  • One MD on site 24 hours with mid-level provider coverage from 0930-2130
  • No interventional radiology or cath lab on site; STEMI, stroke, and trauma cases are transported to higher level of care
  • Facility provides general surgery services
  • Utilizes Telemedicine and Telestroke consultations through UVMMC
  • Uses Epic for documentation and Pyxis for medication management
  • Special equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Phillips monitors, and Ranger blood warmer
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Minimum every other weekend required, with schedule flexibility to meet unit needs
  • No floating required
  • Holiday coverage required; must work 2 of the following 4 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Day
Requirements
  • Active VT RN license or compact license required
  • Certifications required: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS, ENPC, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • Charge experience required
  • Previous travel assignment experience required (at least 1 completed contract)
  • Epic experience within the past 2 years required
  • Comfort with ambulance transport duties preferred
  • Experience in a critical access hospital or rural ED setting is a plus
Additional Information
  • Responsibilities include ESI triage, IV insertion, drip and infusion management, EKGs, restraint application, procedural sedation, and ambulance transports
  • May be asked to precept new nurses
  • Manager/supervisor available on-call during off hours
  • Bi-weekly orientation held on Mondays
  • No block schedules permitted
  • Reliable personal transportation strongly recommended due to lack of public transit; vehicles should be equipped for winter driving conditions November through April
  • Charge experience and rural/critical access ED experience are highly valued
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this role due to prior travel experience requirement
