What is a wine tasting associate?

Wine Tasting Associates are professionals who guide guests through wine tasting experiences, often at wineries or tasting rooms. They educate visitors about different wines, explain tasting notes, and provide information on the winemaking process. Their role includes pouring samples, answering questions, and sometimes recommending wine pairings or facilitating sales. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential for this position. Wine Tasting Associates help create a memorable and enjoyable experience for guests.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a wine tasting associate?

A Wine Tasting Associate typically greets guests, explains wine selections, pours samples, and provides information on the winery’s history, varietals, and tasting notes. They handle sales transactions, restock tasting areas, and may set up or clean the tasting room before and after service. Associates also answer questions, recommend bottles, and ensure guests have a memorable, educational experience. Collaboration with other team members is common, especially during events or busy weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a wine tasting associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Wine Tasting Associate, you need a solid understanding of wine varieties, tasting techniques, and customer service, often supported by basic wine education or certifications like WSET Level 1. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory management software is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to convey information enthusiastically help create memorable guest experiences. These skills are crucial for building customer loyalty, driving sales, and representing the winery or retailer professionally.

Job description

Wine Server

Caduceus Cellars is a small family owned winery on the cusp of our bristling Arizona wine industry, where opportunities branch out in many directions. At the Caduceus Cellars Tasting Room in Jerome, where the wine is finally placed into the hands of the customer, we are the story-tellers of the evolving journey of our wines - from vineyard, to winery, through aging and bottling to the final arrival of the wine at the Tasting Room some years later, each one a time capsule.

As wine servers, we deliver exceptional customer service and tell that story while we pour tastes and serve items from our small plate menu which compliment the wine. These interactions often engender conversation with interesting people from around the world.

An eagerness to learn as well as listening to and interacting with people while keeping the flow of the Tasting Room in perspective are the priorities that lead to success in this endeavor.

Pay: $13/hr + Tips

Caduceus Cellars Tasting Room is an EEO/AA/Minority/Female/Disability/Veteran employer.
