What is a Windows installer?

Windows Installers are professionals who install, configure, and maintain the Microsoft Windows operating system and related software on computers and servers. Their responsibilities include setting up new hardware, upgrading or repairing existing systems, and ensuring that Windows runs smoothly and securely. They may also troubleshoot issues, install updates, and help users with software compatibility. Windows Installers often work in IT departments, helping businesses and individuals keep their systems up to date and secure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Windows installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Windows Installer, you need a solid understanding of operating systems, system configuration, and troubleshooting, usually supported by experience or certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate. Familiarity with deployment tools like Windows Deployment Services (WDS), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and imaging software is commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure efficient and reliable system installations, minimize downtime, and provide users with seamless IT experiences.

What are some common challenges Windows installers face when setting up operating systems in varied environments?

Windows Installers often encounter challenges such as hardware compatibility issues, managing driver installations, and ensuring seamless integration with existing network infrastructure. Each environment may have unique requirements, such as custom configurations or legacy software, which can add complexity to the installation process. Additionally, coordinating with IT teams or end-users to minimize downtime and performing thorough post-installation testing are crucial parts of the role. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong troubleshooting skills and effective communication.

Glazing Estimator / Outside Sales RepresentativeExperienced glazier looking for a break from the physical grind?

Glass Doctor of Edmonton is looking for someone with hands-on glazing knowledge who is ready to step into a customer-facing estimating role.
This position is ideal for an experienced glazier who still enjoys the industry but would prefer to spend less time hauling glass, climbing ladders, and working outside in every kind of Alberta weather.
This is not a cold-calling sales position. Your appointments are scheduled for you, and you’ll typically attend approximately 6–10 estimates per day.
You’ll visit customers throughout Edmonton and the surrounding area, assess their glass and window needs, take accurate measurements, identify the correct products and glass types, and prepare estimates using our tablet-based quoting system.
What You’ll Do
  • Attend scheduled residential and commercial estimate appointments
  • Measure windows, sealed units, doors, mirrors, showers, and other glass products
  • Identify glass types and specifications, including:
    • Tempered or annealed glass
    • Low-E coatings
    • Tinted and patterned glass
    • Laminated and safety glass
    • Overall unit and individual pane thickness
  • Use glass-reading and measuring tools to confirm product details
  • Enter measurements, specifications, notes, and photos into our tablet-based customer system
  • Review system-generated pricing and select the appropriate pricing level or discount where applicable
  • Explain options clearly and help customers choose the best solution for their needs
  • Maintain organized and accurate estimate records
  • Keep a reliable written backup of field measurements and job details
  • Stay current on company products, services, and installation requirements
  • Communicate clearly with office staff, technicians, and customers
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous glazing experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of residential and commercial glass products
  • Ability to take accurate measurements and recognize installation requirements
  • Comfortable using a tablet and learning new software
  • Previous estimating, sales, or customer-service experience is an asset
  • Friendly, approachable, and confident speaking with customers
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Professional appearance and dependable work habits
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to be insured on company vehicles
  • Able to work independently while remaining connected with the office team
Schedule
  • Monday to Friday
  • Approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Flexible scheduling may be available
  • No regular evening or weekend work
  • Opportunity to work one or two later shifts per week, if desired
What We Offer
  • Full-time, year-round work
  • Consistent weekday schedule
  • Company vehicle and required measuring equipment
  • Training on our quoting system, pricing structure, and processes
  • A supportive office and field team with plenty of personality
  • A friendly, collaborative company culture full of good humour, sass, and teamwork
  • Opportunity to use your glazing knowledge without the daily physical demands of full-time installation work
  • Stable role with an established, locally owned company
  • The chance to work with Tanya and Teresa, which may honestly be the best perk of all
About Us
Glass Doctor of Edmonton is a locally owned and operated company serving residential, commercial, and automotive customers throughout Edmonton and surrounding communities.
We are an established and highly rated company with a 4.6-star Google rating and more than 500 customer reviews.
We are a busy, growing team that values practical knowledge, clear communication, good humour, integrity, and people who take pride in doing things properly.
We believe in recommending the right solution for the customer, even when that means choosing the simpler, more affordable option instead of selling something they do not need.
If you know glass, enjoy meeting people, and are ready for a role that lets you use your experience in a different way, we’d love to hear from you.
