The Role:
Assists in the custodial cleaning of the Student Union, the Wildcat Shop and Dining Facilities using equipment, hand tools and cleaning chemicals to complete the duties of the job. This position performs custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities within assigned areas, ensuring departmental standards are met. Performs other custodial duties and cleaning as required. All employees are expected to uphold and contribute to CWU's vision, mission, and values, fostering a culture of student success and institutional excellence.
Job Duties
Custodial:
- Custodial Areas: Dining Facilities, Public Restrooms, Event Spaces, Meeting Rooms, Offices, Public Areas and Wild Cat Shop.
- Outside Areas: Shovel snow, de-ice, clean concrete, empty trash, blow leaves, and wipe tables at all entrances and patios.
- Public Areas: Sweep, mop and machine scrub tile and concrete floors, vacuums carpets, spot and shampoo carpets as needed, clean tables and other furniture, clean under cushions and furniture, empty and wash trash receptacles, clean drinking fountains, wash windows, dust all horizontal surfaces, remove all cobwebs, clean and oil all woodwork as needed.
- Restrooms and Locker Rooms: Sweep and mop floors, check and fill all dispensers, clean and sanitizes sinks, mirrors, and chrome, wash walls and partitions, empty trash and wash trash receptacles, clean and sanitize toilets and urinals, dust all horizontal surfaces.
- Meeting Rooms and Offices Areas: Vacuum carpets, spot and shampoo carpets as needed, clean furniture, empty and wash trash receptacles, dust all horizontal surfaces, remove all cobwebs, clean and oil all woodwork as needed. Clean rubber, wood, and concrete floors, and wash windows.
- Maintain Building Security: Lock and unlock the building as needed.
- Perform special custodial projects such as floor finishing.
- May be required to operate a company vehicle
Window Washing:
- Maintain interior and exterior glass and windows throughout facility using provided and approved chemicals and equipment.
- Use aerial lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and extension poles to clean upper windows and clean/dust lighting fixtures.
- Move and replace furniture and equipment to gain better access to windows.
- Clean and pressure wash outside areas.
- Remove cobwebs from interior and exterior of building.
- Service and maintain equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Lock and unlock the buildings or spaces as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position and meet the physical demands of the working conditions .
  • Customer service experience.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Basic computer skills, to receive and respond to e-mail, report time, performance evaluations etc.
  • Experience working unsupervised for an extended period of time.
  • Experience performing custodial work in a commercial setting.
  • Demonstrated ability and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or colleagues to foster a supportive and effective learning and work environment.
  • OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience washing windows.
  • Experience or training using ladders, scaffolding, extension poles, and aerial lifts and/or similar equipment.
  • Practical working knowledge of custodial supplies, cleaning chemicals, floor care products/polishers, pressure washers, and carpet cleaning equipment.
  • Experience performing custodial work in high volume/traffic conditions.
  • Experience or training in service, maintenance of work equipment and chemical safety awareness training.
  • Experience communicating through a variety of methods including in-person, phone, text, email, and digital app.
  • Experience problem solving and troubleshooting equipment or logistical issues that would impact duties.
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in the work environment and the ability to demonstrate and encourage accountability on an individual and team level.
  • Ability to incorporate a variety of perspectives and relevant societal issues into everyday conversations.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary : This position is based on the range 34B of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $38,268 and maximum annual salary of $49,428 . In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
Schedule/Appointment : Sunday -Thursday, 6pm-3am or Tuesday-Saturday, 6am-3pm, (1-hour lunch) Schedule may vary depending on department need / WFSE Bargaining Unit 1
Working Conditions : This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required, and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
