Salary Range: TFS has a salary grid for non-unionized employees, which is determined by the nature of the position and the candidate's level of experience. For this position, the hourly salary range is $34.01 - $36.62.

About the Position

The General Repair Worker is responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance, repair, and upkeep tasks across the TFS campus. Reporting to the Associate Director of Facilities, the General Repair Worker supports the safe, functional, and well-maintained condition of classrooms, offices, common areas, washrooms, outdoor spaces, and school facilities.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, reliable, and service-oriented professional with strong general maintenance skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with members of the Facilities team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Carpentry & General Repairs

• Assemble, repair, and install classroom furniture, including student desks, chairs, bookcases, and storage cabinets.

• Repair or replace door hardware, including hinges, knobs, closers, and kickplates.

• Install and repair window screens and blinds.

• Patch, sand, and paint damaged drywall.

• Repair or replace damaged ceiling tiles.

• Install and secure whiteboards, bulletin boards, TVs, and other fixtures.

• Repair or secure loose bathroom partitions and other building fixtures.

2. Plumbing & Restroom Maintenance

• Clear minor blockages in sinks and toilets.

• Repair or replace flush valves, flappers, and other minor plumbing components.

• Repair leaking faucets and replace cartridges as required.

• Secure loose sink hardware.

• Re-caulk sinks, toilets, water fountains, and other fixtures as required to maintain sanitary conditions.

• Replace water fountain filters and unclog drains as needed.

3. Electrical & Lighting

• Replace burnt-out fluorescent, LED, and incandescent bulbs throughout classrooms, hallways, offices, and other school areas.

• Replace cracked or damaged outlet and light switch covers.

• Assist with the minor installation, assembly, or relocation of breakroom appliances, including microwaves, refrigerators, and portable air-conditioning units.

4. Exterior & Grounds Maintenance

• Inspect playground equipment and perform minor tightening and repairs as required to support safe operation.

• Pressure wash exterior entryways and other designated areas.

• Clear debris from gutters and exterior areas.

• Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks, including assembling outdoor benches and other outdoor fixtures.

• Assist with clearing snow and ice from primary pedestrian walkways as required.

• Perform other general groundskeeping and maintenance tasks as assigned.

5. Health, Safety & Compliance

• Follow all applicable local, provincial, and national building, health, and safety regulations.

• Follow all TFS health and safety policies and procedures.

• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety equipment when performing maintenance tasks.

• Ensure work areas are safe, clean, and free of hazards before leaving the premises.

• Report safety concerns, significant damage, or maintenance issues requiring specialized expertise to the appropriate member of the Facilities team.

• Perform all duties in a manner that supports the safety and well-being of students, employees, and visitors.

6. Other Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and organized records of completed maintenance and repair work, where required.

• Communicate effectively with Facilities staff, school employees, and external service providers.

• Assist with general Facilities projects and other maintenance tasks as required.

• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Scope and Limitations

The General Repair Worker  position is intended to cover routine and minor maintenance and repair work. The role does not include:

• Major structural renovations requiring architectural permits or structural engineering approval.

• High-voltage electrical work, including installation or modification of electrical panels or breaker boxes.

• Major plumbing work, including replacement of sewer mains, boilers, water heaters, or other major plumbing infrastructure.

• Extensive asbestos, mold, or other hazardous-material remediation.

• Any work requiring specialized licensing, certification, permits, or professional sign-off beyond the qualifications and scope of the position.

• High school diploma or GED.

• Building Operator Licence or other relevant trade licence is an asset.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a maintenance, building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or similar role.

• Valid driver's licence, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.

• Basic knowledge of plumbing and general building maintenance.

• Basic carpentry skills, including locating studs, building or assembling shelving, and installing cabinets.

• Comfortable using a variety of hand tools and power tools.

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately convert measurements.

• Ability to safely sit, stand, kneel, bend, lift, climb ladders, and perform physical maintenance tasks.

• Ability to lift and move furniture, equipment, and maintenance materials safely.

• Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

• Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

La position

Le ou l'Agent(e) d'entretien et de reparations generales est responsable d'effectuer diverses taches d'entretien general, de reparation et de maintien en bon etat des installations du campus de TFS. Relevant de la direction adjointe des installations, la personne titulaire du poste contribue a assurer que les salles de classe, les bureaux, les espaces communs, les salles de bain, les espaces exterieurs et les autres installations de l'ecole sont securitaires, fonctionnels et bien entretenus.

La personne recherchee est fiable, polyvalente et axee sur le service. Elle possede de solides competences en maintenance generale et est capable de travailler de facon autonome tout en collaborant efficacement avec les membres de l'equipe des installations.

Principales responsabilites

1. Menuiserie et reparations generales

• Assembler, reparer et installer le mobilier des salles de classe, notamment les pupitres, les chaises, les bibliotheques et les armoires de rangement.

• Reparer ou remplacer la quincaillerie des portes, notamment les charnieres, les poignees, les ferme-portes et les plaques de protection.

• Installer et reparer les moustiquaires et les stores.

• Reparer, sabler et peindre les cloisons seches endommagees.

• Reparer ou remplacer les carreaux de plafond endommages.

• Installer et fixer les tableaux blancs, tableaux d'affichage, televiseurs et autres equipements ou accessoires.

• Reparer ou securiser les cloisons de salles de bain et autres installations du batiment qui sont desserrees.

2. Plomberie et entretien des salles de bain

• Deboucher les eviers et les toilettes lorsque les obstructions sont mineures.

• Reparer ou remplacer les mecanismes de chasse d'eau, clapets et autres composants de plomberie mineurs.

• Reparer les robinets qui fuient et remplacer les cartouches au besoin.

• Fixer les elements de plomberie des eviers qui sont desserres.

• Refaire les joints de calfeutrage autour des eviers, toilettes, fontaines a eau et autres installations afin de maintenir des conditions sanitaires adequates.

• Remplacer les filtres des fontaines a eau et deboucher les drains au besoin.

3. Electricite et eclairage

• Remplacer les ampoules fluorescentes, DEL et incandescentes brulees dans les salles de classe, corridors, bureaux et autres espaces de l'ecole.

• Remplacer les plaques de prises electriques et d'interrupteurs fissurees ou endommagees.

• Participer a l'installation, a l'assemblage ou au deplacement mineur d'appareils electromenagers dans les salles de pause, notamment les micro-ondes, refrigerateurs et appareils de climatisation portatifs.

4. Entretien exterieur et des terrains

• Inspecter les equipements des terrains de jeux et effectuer les petits ajustements et reparations necessaires afin d'en assurer une utilisation securitaire.

• Nettoyer a pression les entrees exterieures et autres zones designees.

• Retirer les debris des gouttieres et des espaces exterieurs.

• Participer aux travaux d'entretien saisonniers, notamment a l'assemblage des bancs exterieurs et autres installations exterieures.

• Participer au deneigement et a l'enlevement de la glace des principales voies pietonnieres au besoin.

• Effectuer d'autres taches generales d'entretien des terrains et des installations, selon les besoins.

5. Sante, securite et conformite

• Respecter toutes les lois et reglementations municipales, provinciales et nationales applicables en matiere de batiment, de sante et de securite.

• Respecter les politiques et procedures de TFS en matiere de sante et de securite.

• Utiliser l'equipement de protection individuelle et l'equipement de securite appropries lors de l'execution des travaux d'entretien.

• S'assurer que les lieux de travail sont securitaires, propres et exempts de risques avant de quitter les lieux.

• Signaler les preoccupations liees a la securite, les dommages importants ou les problemes d'entretien necessitant une expertise specialisee au membre approprie de l'equipe des installations.

• Effectuer toutes les taches de maniere a favoriser la securite et le bien-etre des eleves, des employes et des visiteurs.

6. Autres responsabilites

• Tenir, lorsque requis, des registres precis et organises des travaux d'entretien et de reparation effectues.

• Communiquer efficacement avec le personnel des installations, les employes de l'ecole et les fournisseurs de services externes.

• Participer aux projets generaux des installations et a d'autres travaux d'entretien au besoin.

• Effectuer toute autre tache connexe qui lui est confiee.

Portee et limites du poste

Le poste d'agent d'entretien et de reparations generales vise a couvrir les travaux d'entretien et de reparation courants et mineurs. Le role n'inclut pas :

• Les renovations structurelles majeures necessitant des permis d'architecte ou l'approbation d'un ingenieur en structure.

• Les travaux electriques a haute tension, notamment l'installation ou la modification de panneaux electriques ou de disjoncteurs.

• Les travaux de plomberie majeurs, notamment le remplacement des conduites principales d'egout, des chaudieres, des chauffe-eau ou d'autres infrastructures importantes de plomberie.

• Les travaux importants d'assainissement lies a l'amiante, aux moisissure...
