Job description

Education/Certification Required:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid class "C" Texas driver' s license, and be insurable by the district.

Special Knowledge/Skills Preferred:

  • Three (3) years experience in general glazing repair in commercial buildings. Familiar with all types of glass and metal/wood window frames. Knowledge of proper use of hand and power tools, machines and equipment used in the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of facilities. Knowledge of applicable State and Local codes.

Technology Proficiency Required:

  • Basic computer operation preferred, e.g. word processing, use of Email.

Experience Preferred:

  • Three (3) years experience in general glazing repair in commercial buildings. Familiar with all types of glass and metal/wood window frames.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Concentration (detailed work), communicating (verbal/written), interpretive skills (policy, procedure, data), reasoning skills, understanding verbal instructions, and analyzing, differentiating, memorizing, reading, coordinating, emotional control.

Function

Perform, under the general supervision, a variety of skilled craft work in the maintenance and upkeep of school buildings, facilities, and miscellaneous equipment; perform skilled craft work in one or more of the buildings; maintenance trades; perform other related work as may be required .

Reports To:

Under the direct supervision of the Foreman and the general supervision of the Administrative Officer Facility Maintenance.

Responsibilities:

Primary DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in specific trade and assist the basic trades such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and heating and refrigeration.
  • Required analyzing problem areas and determining the best course of action to correct the areas of concern.
  • Work within assigned vertical team and or district wide.
  • Cuts and installs glass.
  • Glazes wood and metal sashes.
  • Cuts and installs all types of door and sash moldings.
  • Cleans up and removes salvage materials from work site.
  • Assumes responsibility of safe operation and care of assigned service vehicle, tools, and equipment.
  • Assures that proper time, material, and work related data is noted on all work orders.
  • Assumes responsibility for the quality control of all work done.
  • Adheres to district guidelines and policies in the purchase of material, equipment, and tools.
  • Assume all other duties assigned to serve the needs as determined to be in the best interest of the CCISD.

Secondary DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the installation, tape and texture drywalls, of sheet rock and paneling.
  • Assist in the repair or modification of furniture, desks, tables and bookcases.
  • Assist in the framing, cover and installation of roof fixtures.
  • Assist in the repair or install, test service and maintain electrical and lighting systems, including conduit and duct systems, light and power circuits, junction boxes, switches and receptacles.
  • Assist in the repair or replace electrical units for dishwashers, refrigerators, garbage disposals, stoves and other kitchen equipment.
  • Assist in the repair of all types of door hardware including but not limited to locks, keying systems, dead bolts, hinges, door closures, kick plates.
  • Assist in the coding and cut keys for all types of district keying systems.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems and related equipment, including fans, blowers, thermostats, pumps and motors.
  • Assist in the installation of interior and exterior wiring for new and altered facilities.
  • Assist in the installation, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, appliances, water supply and sewer lines, storm drains and gas lines ; repair and replace valves , fittings , ball cocks and pack faucets .
  • Assist in cutting and threading of pipe.
  • Assist in performing or assist in welding, soldering , caulking and brazing when necessary .
  • Assist in the installation or repair hot water heaters , garbage disposals and other appliances .
  • Assist in maintaining, repair , or installation of manual and automatically operated sprinklers and irrigation controls, timing devices , sprinkler heads, back- flow and anti-siphon valves and lines .
  • Assist in the service or replace clock motors and micro-switches .
  • Assist in applying, using brush, roller, or spray gun, paint, varnish, shellac, enamel , lacquer or other protective or decorative finishes to a variety of surfaces .
  • Assist in preparing surfaces for painting.
  • Assist in the refinishing of furniture .
  • Assist in painting signs, door numbers, paint lines or athletic courts and parking lots.
  • Assist installation or replace , floor and ceiling tiles .
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor or his designee .

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Lifting (heavy, 45 pounds or over) , carrying (heavy, 45 pounds or over), stooping, walking, climbing (stairs , ladders, scaffold, ramps), balancing, crouching, kneeling, pulling, crawling, working in confined areas, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, visual acuity, driving (car, truck, bus).
  • Outside temperature extremes, noises, vibrating, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, kneeling, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke , etc. ), inside, humidity extremes, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, works alone, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc. ).
