What is a window cleaner?

Window cleaners are professionals who specialize in cleaning the glass surfaces of buildings, including windows, skylights, and sometimes mirrors. They use tools like squeegees, scrapers, and cleaning solutions to remove dirt, grime, and streaks from both exterior and interior windows. Window cleaners may work on residential homes, commercial buildings, or high-rise structures, often employing ladders, water-fed poles, or even suspended platforms for taller buildings. Their work helps maintain the appearance of properties and ensures clear, unobstructed views while also promoting window longevity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a window cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Window Cleaner, you need physical fitness, attention to detail, and knowledge of safety procedures, with some employers preferring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cleaning solutions, squeegees, extension poles, ladders, and, for high-rise work, safety harnesses and rope descent systems is essential. Excellent time management, customer service, and communication skills help build client trust and ensure efficient service. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering thorough, safe, and professional cleaning results in a variety of environments.

What are some common challenges window cleaners face when working on high-rise buildings?

Window cleaners working on high-rise buildings often encounter challenges such as unpredictable weather conditions, strict safety protocols, and the need for specialized equipment like harnesses and suspended platforms. Adapting to rapidly changing weather, especially wind, requires quick decision-making to ensure safety and efficiency. Additionally, teamwork and communication are crucial, as many tasks require coordination with building management and other crew members to maintain safety and minimize disruptions.

2 Openings -- Store & Window Cleaners Needed (National Home Goods Retailer) -- Marietta, GA

Marietta, GA • On-site

$33 - $80/hr

Part-time

Posted 11 days ago

Job description

Boll & Branch — 4475 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062

Steady, recurring work — not one-off.

Which spot are you applying for — the weekly store cleaning, the monthly windows, or open to either?

Role 1 — Store Cleaner (Weekly)

  • Every Wednesday, 8 AM start. Next visit: 9/9/26
  • Pay: $50 per visit, flat
  • Time on site: ~1–1.5 hrs (could be a little less or more depending on experience and getting a system down after the first couple visits)
  • Effective hourly: ~$33–$50/hr

Role 2 — Window Cleaner (Monthly)

  • Once a month, 8 AM start. Next visit: 9/23/26
  • Pay: $60 per visit, flat
  • Time on site: ~45 min–1 hr
  • Effective hourly: ~$60–$80/hr

Extra Paid Visit — Semi-Annual Deep Clean

Every 6 months, both hires team up for a deep clean — paid separately. Next one: 2/11/27, 8 AM start. $70 per person, ~1.5–2 hrs on site per person. Effective hourly: ~$35–$47/hr.

Backup Coverage

Each hire is the other's backup — if you cover the other person's service on a given visit, you're paid that service's rate.

A Few Things to Understand Before Applying

  • This is not a full-time or part-time job — it's one visit a week (or once a month for windows), not a daily role.
  • Pay is a flat rate per visit, not hourly. You're paid for the job, not the clock. Most people find this works in their favor once they get efficient — the faster and better you work, the higher your effective hourly rate.

Requirements

  • Cleaning experience (any kind — retail, food service, warehouse, etc.)
  • Window Cleaner role: must have used a window scrubber and squeegee (spray-and-wipe doesn't count)
  • Store Cleaner role: window experience a plus, not required
  • Reliable personal transportation
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Comfortable completing a standard onboarding screening

Supplies

North Co provides all chemicals and equipment. Bring your own for a per-visit bonus: +$10 store/deep clean, +$5 windows, +$15 if bringing both. Let us know what you already have — all, some, or none.

Reliability

Same day every week (or every month for windows). Any change needs 48 hours' notice to us — we handle the store. No-shows are the one thing that ends the relationship.

Pay & Check-In

Check in/out and photos via link. Pay averages 24–48 hrs after the job is confirmed to manager satisfaction, via Cash App.

Dress Code

Slip-resistant shoes recommended, plain blue or black shirt (branded shirt at 3 months), jeans or non-athletic shorts — nothing ripped, no sweatpants. Hair tied back, clean and presentable.

Communication

Our #1 priority — respond promptly to texts and calls.
