Job description

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) in Tucson, AZ is looking for a Procurement Buyer. The buyer will be a member of the Tucson, AZ location procurement team and support and implement Howmet procurement strategy and mission. This is a key change-agent position accountable for results, with minimal guidance, in the assigned areas of responsibility. This position will be responsible for developing strategies, priorities and leading implementation in the assigned areas.

Born from many well-known and long-standing brands, Howmet Fastening Systems, headquartered in Torrance, California, is the premier designer and manufacturer of aerospace and industrial fasteners, latches, fluid fittings and installation tools. Our products are used nose to tail on commercial and military aircraft, as well as on jet engines, industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, wind turbines, solar power systems, and construction and industrial equipment.

Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for identifying and implementing cost reduction activities at the location using Howmet procurement tools and technology in support of location, BU and Howmet objectives.
  • Support buy/supply/pay practices and the administrative process to drive process optimization and automation.  
  • Assist with forecasting material and supplies consumption.
  • Place purchase orders for MRO, Tooling and Raw Materials. 
  • Coordinate supplier's delivery schedules to meet production needs.
  • Monitor resource requirements to assure schedule requirements are met. 
  • Maintain minimum inventory to support the production schedule. Work with other buyer/planners or operations staff to develop JIT stocking programs with suppliers. 
  • Interface with other departments (Shipping, Processing, Engineering, Quality) to resolve problems with timely delivery or disposition of rejection notices.
  • Interface with production to resolve problems relevant to direct materials, outside processing, services, raw material quality, quantity verification and delivery in support of production demands.
  • Develop sourcing strategies by analyzing the supply base, market conditions, and technology roadmaps.
  • Identify potential suppliers, analyze capabilities, and develop a sourcing strategy and roadmap for Howmet stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement on a daily basis by your actions. Take the initiative to resolve purchasing issues with and without interaction from supervision.  Willingly participate with production teams to resolve sourcing issues.
  • Supports the GPPM, quality and aerospace standards for the department ensuring compliance.
  • Assumes other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as required.
  • Adheres to Howmet EH&S, Quality, Continuous Improvements and Company Policies.
  • Self-starter; must be able to contribute to creating his/her job content.
  • Perform other tasks as needed in support of manufacturing operations, customers and suppliers.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business, Engineering or related field

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Windows, Excel, Word and Access.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee involvement, participative management, and continuous improvement.   
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
