Job description

Pay:

$16.17 - $18.91

The Custodian I performs a substantial variety of general custodial duties necessary for the maintenance of county-owned facilities and restrooms. Under minimal supervision, Custodians are provided all necessary personal protective equipment.This is a part-time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Maintains County-owned restrooms and facilities, on a daily basis.
  • Disposes properly of all trash, waste, and recyclables
  • Cleans bathroom floors using floor-cleaning equipment and necessary chemicals to achieve cleanliness and sanitation
  • Replaces and refills custodial supplies and maintains stock in inventory
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Cleans, and sanitizes restroom buildings before and after visitor use.
  • Occasional repair of screens, replacement of lightbulbs, and basic household maintenance.
  • Maintains cleanliness of grounds and facilities associated.
  • Ensures rules are followed pertaining to all-natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use for the enjoyment of the visitor.
  • In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee.
  • During an emergency or crisis situation, this position will may be required to be present at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated.
  • Performs other Duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Minimum of one year's experience in custodial work or related field
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
  • A valid State of Florida driver's license with clean driving record

Working Environment and Physical Demands

The person in this position needs to frequently move about within buildings and outdoors to facilitate custodial tasks.

Frequently ascends/descends ramps and naturally elevated surfaces in parks.

Constantly positions self to maintain all aspects of County facilities, including retrieving items from the ground and in small spaces in restrooms.

Frequently communicates with supervisors regarding safety and custodial instructions. May communicate with the public regarding condition and/or use of facilities. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Must be able to inspect and assess County facilities, including outdoor trash-collection areas, and perform needed custodial functions based on assessment.

Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue, including objects up to 20 pounds in weight.

Constant movement and use of limbs; position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.

The position functions frequently in an outdoor environment and is subject to outside environmental conditions, including inclement weather, extreme temperatures and humidity, pollution and dust. Noise level is moderate.
