  • This is a paid, full-time, 11-week internship designed to give you real-world experience and meaningful exposure to the telecommunications industry in your chosen field.
  • Internship program runs from May 26 through August 6, 2027.
  • In addition to role-specific projects, youโ€™ll take part in professional development sessions, networking opportunities, mentorship and experiences that help you grow personally and professionally.

What you can expect in this roleย ย 

As a Spectrum intern, youโ€™ll spend the summer working alongside two teams: your respective department and your intern cohort.

Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. Youโ€™ll spend the other 20% on internship experiences that include a kickoff conference, professional development sessions and networking activities, webinars, community service, cross-functional projects and final presentations.

This experience is designed to help you explore your interests, expand your network and leave with a deeper understanding of both your field and the impact of our business.

Internship responsibilities may include:

  • The CPE Observability team builds and maintains dashboards, data pipelines, and monitoring tools that provide visibility into Charter's fleet of 28M+ WiFi routers and extenders. We analyze device telemetry, track firmware release quality, and produce visual data products that operations teams, product managers, and field engineers use to make real-time decisions about network health and customer experience.
  • - Build and maintain observability dashboards in Splunk, Datadog and Grafana using production WiFi device telemetry data (28M+ devices) - Learn and write SPL (Splunk Processing Language) queries to analyze device health metrics, reboot patterns, and firmware release performance across Charter's WiFi fleet - Create data visualizations that translate complex device telemetry into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders (Network Operations Center, product teams, field operations) - Leverage AI-assisted development tools (Kiro, HIVE, Copilot) to accelerate query writing, dashboard building, and data analysis workflows - Assist with monitoring and alerting configuration in Datadog for service health tracking - Participate in firmware release observability: building dashboards that track the rollout and performance of new WiFi router firmware across millions of devices - Contribute to automation using Python scripting (data extraction, report generation, pipeline support) - Explore and prototype AI/LLM integrations for observability workflows (automated analysis, natural language querying, intelligent alerting) - Participate in team standups and planning sessions, learning Kanban workflow methodology - Present findings and dashboard demonstrations to cross-functional stakeholders - Deliver a 10-week capstone project (observability dashboard or data product) with a final presentation to team leadership

Required qualifications

  • Must be a rising senior with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a bachelorโ€™s degree
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
  • Ability to travel locally to Spectrum intern development events and activities throughout the program
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Python programming, data visualization (dashboards, charts, presenting data visually), familiarity with Linux/command-line environments, version control (Git), strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Preferred: experience with log analysis or search query languages, exposure to cloud platforms (AWS), and interest in observability, monitoring, or site reliability engineering concepts.
