Job description
Under the general direction of the Calumet County Director of Special Education and adherence to the philosophy and goals of the district, provides speech/language services for each student identified as having a disability or related services need in the area of speech and language. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesParticipates in speech/language screenings when they are held.
Screens referrals from teachers, principals, parents, and special service personnel and make referrals as needed.
Develops an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for all students on the caseload following the DPI criteria and using input from teachers and parents.
Selects, prepares and uses materials for implementing the IEP including materials for classroom, and home activities when relevant.
Plans and implements educationally relevant therapy using a logical sequence of activities.
Establishes and maintains a positive, organized and safe learning environment using appropriate and effective behavior management.
Assists in the enforcement of school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policies. Uses technology resources effectively.
Reevaluates students enrolled in the speech and language program as required by DPI.
Assesses student progress and communicates that information knowledgeably and responsibly to students, parents, and professional staff.
Fosters student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others.
Recognizes overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting action.
Consults with teachers about classroom modifications and be a resource for information about speech and language development and disorders.
Attends meetings as required.
Keeps abreast of relevant laws, rules and policies.
Provides training and/or information for parents, teachers, and administrators.
Establishes and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with student's families to increase student achievement.
Performs other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position and other duties as directed by the Director of Special Education.
Maintains case records containing pertinent, accurate and current information; prepare correspondence, reports and other records as required.

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution of higher education; at least two years' experience as a Speech and Language Pathologist in a school setting preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, clients, and the general public.
Ability to communicate tactfully, clearly, concisely, accurately and to establish a therapeutic relationship with students and families.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet, spreadsheet, and Word Processing software.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with both hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to physical hazards (e.g. kicking, biting, scratching). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
