Job description

TheYMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Countiesis seeking aSwim Coachto join our team.

The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

As a Swim Coach,you will instruct in beginning to advanced swimming and safety skills according to age group and class swim level, according to YMCACompetitive Swimming guidelines. If hired for this position, you will prepare class lesson plans with a natural progression of appropriate skills for the abilities and ages of the swimmers. You will conduct swimming practices utilizing proper stroke techniques. You will also communicate with parents and keep accurate records of attendance and skill progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely conduct swimming practices utilizing proper stroke techniques according to YMCA Competitive Swimming guidelines.
  • Submit athlete meet information using the Team Manager software.
  • Assist with keeping accurate records of attendance and skill progression.
  • Assist the aquatics program in answering parent questions and concerns.

Are you a Good Fit:

  • Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • One to two years related experience (preferred).
  • Previous experience working with youth preferably in a program setting and diverse populations.
  • Must have an active recreational coaching style.
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards. Experience and knowledge in coaching swim team preferred.
  • Ability to coach and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • YMCA Lifeguard and Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification (preferred).
  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).


Wage:$19.08 to $25.17 per hour,(Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Hours:Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week

Location:Haselwood Family YMCA, Silverdale, WA
