Position Summary

The School of Health and Wellness is inviting applicants for the position of Clinical Experience Manager.
The Clinical Experience Manager provides support and mentorship to staff and faculty responsible for the SHW student clinical, field and preceptorship experiences.

The Clinical Experience Manager, School of Health & Wellness oversees the development/redevelopment, delivery, and assessment of programs and curriculum to meet CAQC and institutional standards of excellence with regards to the SHW student clinical, field, and preceptorship population. This position supports faculty and staff in their professional development and scholarly activity to ensure quality work and learning outcomes.
Within the School of Health & Wellness, the Clinical Experience Manager, School of Health & Wellness collaborates with the Dean and other members of the operational team to establish and implement goals and plans to support the institution's strategic priorities.

Position Responsibilities

Academic & Operational Leadership

  • Contributes to the strategic and operational planning for the school based on an assessment of current capabilities.
  • Collaborates on strategic enrolment management initiatives and oversees School efforts aimed at enhancing the student experience.
  • In collaboration with faculty, SHW leadership, P&C, and student supports, supports and ensures student and faculty fitness to practice.
  • Ensures alignment of and compliance with policies and procedures and any regulatory body where applicable that contributes to and supports a strong culture of teaching excellence and academic integrity in the learning environment.
  • Supports academic excellence in the development, delivery, assessment, and review of programs.
  • Establishes appropriate academic standards and assessment of student learning against established standards.
  • Manages projects related to new and renewed programming directions and opportunities.
  • Promotes progressive, learner-centred delivery models in the development and revision of curriculum.
  • Supports the processes in resolving issues related to learner success.
  • Fosters and maintains work and learning environments that are equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible for the full diversity of the community served.

Teaching, Research, and Scholarly Activity

  • Identifies and initiates School based activities that enhances the student experience and learner success.
  • Provides leadership and support to the faculty in the development of teaching excellence in each program.
  • Encourages and supports faculty and staff in the integration of appropriate technology in the teaching and learning environment.
  • Engages with Applied Research and Work Integrated Learning to promote applied research and learning initiatives to internal and external audiences.

People Leadership

  • Demonstrates leadership within the school for continuous improvement, innovation, and learner centred operations.
  • Operationalizes and applies Collective Agreements and institutional policies as they apply to School/Division operations, in conjunction with the Dean of Students, the Associate Vice President Teaching, other Deans, Associate Deans and People and Culture.
  • In collaboration with other SHW team members, recruits, selects, coaches, develops, and supervises staff and faculty in compliance with People & Culture policies and procedures, FOIPP, and collective agreements in support of a high performing team.
  • Facilitates and supports activities and processes that contribute to the retention of faculty
  • Facilitates, where necessary, discipline and dismissal of reporting staff and faculty in consultation with the Dean and People and Culture.
  • Executes the Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities required of supervisors.
  • Maintains confidentiality of personal information in accordance with institutional policies, procedures, and FOIPP.
  • Approves, monitors, and reports vacation and other absences for staff and faculty under the direct supervision; arrange coverage for all vacation and long-term absences as required.
  • Promotes and facilitates a culture of professional growth and development.

Communication & Relationship Management

  • Ensures effective communication, collaboration, and liaison with internal and external parties:
  • Provides consultation between School/Division and service areas and coordinates intra-departmental and inter-departmental communication.
  • Acts as the contact person for consultation with relevant regulatory and professional associations, post-secondary institutions.
  • Develops internal and external partnerships in an effort to support work integrated learning opportunities for students.

  • A minimum of a Masters' degree in an area relevant to the school they are working in, curriculum/program development or leadership.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered as well as a relevant health designation.
  • 5-7 years experience facilitating or instructing in an adult education environment as well as demonstrated experience in development and assessment of curriculum, plus
  • 3-5 years progressively responsible leadership experience including direct supervision of staff (recruitment and selection, and performance coaching).
  • An earned Doctorate from a recognized institution in a relevant area would be preferred.
