Job description

Position Summary:
The Nurse Educator for Perioperative Services supports high-quality surgical care by developing, coordinating, and evaluating education and competency programs for perioperative nursing staff and the Surgical Technician Program. This role provides clinical expertise across the Operating Room, GI Lab, PACU, Prep/Recovery, Pre-Admission Testing, and Central Processing, ensuring staff are well prepared to deliver safe, evidence-based care throughout the perioperative continuum. Working collaboratively with clinical leaders and interdisciplinary teams, the Nurse Educator assesses learning needs, supports orientation and onboarding processes, and facilitates ongoing professional development. Through coaching, instruction, and practice improvement initiatives, the position promotes consistent standards, team readiness, and a supportive learning environment that contributes to optimal patient outcomes across surgical services.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess perioperative staff learning needs and develop education plans, competency evaluations, and training programs that align with evidence-based practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide orientation, clinical coaching, and skills validation for new and existing staff across perioperative service areas including the OR, PACU, GI Lab, Prep/Recovery, Pre-Admission Testing, and Central Processing.
  • Collaborate with department leadership and interdisciplinary teams to implement practice updates, support workflow improvements, and evaluate educational outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials, simulations, and documentation necessary for staff proficiency and departmental readiness.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to perioperative staff, offering guidance and support during procedures, equipment use, and care transitions.
  • Foster a professional learning environment that promotes teamwork, continuous improvement, and adherence to Trinity Health's mission and practice standards.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Current or temporary RN license in ND or compact RN license.
  • BLS, ACLS required within orientation period.
  • Other certifications my be required to obtain depending on the needs of the department.

Educational Requirements:
  • RN by licensure required, BSN and/or Masters preferred.
  • Non BSN applicants:
    • Completion of BSN program required within first 3 years of holding the position.
    • Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where Degree was received.

Experience Requirements:
  • The position requires 3 years of applied clinical experience as an RN in the operating room.
  • Ability to circulate and scrub cases is preferred.
  • Post Anesthesia Care unit experience is preferred.
  • At least one year (1) experience teaching and/or precepting in perioperative services preferred.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and audiovisual equipment.
