Construction Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Superintendent with a strong background in welding, metal fabrication, and miscellaneous metals construction. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing shop fabrication operations, coordinating welders, fabricators, and installation crews, managing production schedules, ensuring material readiness, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. The ideal candidate is a hands on leader with extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes, blueprint reading, welding techniques, and field installation requirements. They must be a proactive problem solver with exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills capable of driving projects from fabrication through successful installation.
Key Responsibilities

  • Project Supervision: Oversee the fabrication and installation of custom welded metal assemblies, ornamental iron work, aluminum gates, steel gates, railings, bollards, window guards, security barriers, custom brackets, support frames, and miscellaneous metal fabrications. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with approved shop drawings, project specifications, welding procedures, quality standards, and contract requirements while maintaining productivity, craftsmanship, and schedule adherence throughout the fabrication and installation process.
  • Fabrication & Installation Management: Coordinate shop fabrication activities with field installation operations to ensure material readiness, proper sequencing, and adherence to project schedules.
  • Crew Management: Lead, schedule, and supervise ironworkers, welders, laborers, installers, and subcontractors, ensuring productivity, workmanship quality, and accountability.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce OSHA regulations, site-specific safety plans, hot work requirements, rigging procedures, fall protection standards, and company safety policies throughout fabrication and installation activities.
  • Scheduling & Logistics Coordination: Manage project schedules, material procurement, fabrication lead times, equipment needs, trucking logistics, crane operations, and workforce allocation to maintain project milestones.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of fabricated and installed work to verify dimensional accuracy, weld quality, finishes, tolerances, and compliance with approved shop drawings and industry standards.
  • Client & Project Team Communication: Serve as the primary field liaison between clients, general contractors, project managers, engineers, architects, fabricators, and installation crews regarding project progress, coordination issues, and schedule updates.
  • Field Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve fabrication discrepancies, field conflicts, unforeseen site conditions, fit-up issues, and installation challenges while minimizing project delays and additional costs.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain daily reports, fabrication tracking logs, installation progress reports, safety documentation, change order records, RFIs, punch list items, and project closeout documentation.
  • Material & Inventory Oversight: Monitor steel, aluminum, stainless steel, hardware, and specialty material inventories to ensure timely procurement, proper storage, and uninterrupted production and installation operations.
Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Fabrication Superintendent, Shop Superintendent, Production Manager, or similar leadership role within a welding, metal fabrication, or miscellaneous metals environment (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supervising fabrication shop operations, welding activities, and field installation crews.
  • Extensive knowledge of welding processes, metal fabrication techniques, shop production workflows, and field installation practices.
  • Strong understanding of ornamental iron work, aluminum and steel gates, railings, bollards, window guards, security barriers, custom metal fabrications, and miscellaneous metals construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication details, architectural plans, engineering drawings, welding symbols, and project specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience managing welders, fabricators, painters, installers, and subcontractors while maintaining production schedules and quality standards.
  • Welding certification from the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent welding qualification preferred. Candidates with extensive supervisory experience may be considered in lieu of formal certification.
  • Strong understanding of welding procedures, weld quality standards, fabrication tolerances, fit-up requirements, and quality control processes.
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux Core (FCAW) welding processes.
  • Knowledge of fabrication equipment including ironworkers, press brakes, shears, band saws, drill presses, welding machines, forklifts, and overhead lifting equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate material procurement, fabrication schedules, deliveries, and installation sequencing to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and production priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and develop fabrication personnel while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and craftsmanship.
  • Experience conducting quality inspections and ensuring fabricated products meet approved shop drawings, project specifications, and company standards.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain production reports, fabrication schedules, material tracking logs, quality control documentation, and safety records.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • English proficiency (required).
  • Must be located in NYC or within 25 miles of Brooklyn, NY 11207.
  • Ability to commute to Brooklyn, NY 11207 (required) and travel to fabrication facilities, supplier locations, and project sites as needed.
  •  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in both shop and field environments when required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
Work Environment

  • Combination of field supervision and office coordination.
  • Fast-paced environment overseeing multiple active projects.
  • Regular travel to job sites throughout the New York metropolitan area.

  • Salary: Starting at $57,600 yearly starting salary - $67,200 annually (commensurate with experience)
