Job description

Role Summary

Coordinate customer contract requirements with internal and external organizations to create high quality custom fabricated products used in the Nuclear Power Industry. Must have a working knowledge and understanding of material fabrication methods such as welding, heat treating, nondestructive examination, metal roll forming, cutting, machining, and other industry practices common to the metal fabrication industry. He/she is responsible for the preparation, implementation, and maintenance of the welding program in accordance with the company Quality Manual. Must also be able to read, understand, and interpret customer design drawings and aid in the development of shop drawings for fabrication.

Job Description and Duties
  1. Possess a general knowledge of metallurgical science.
  2. Interpret ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code(s) & AWS Structural Welding Codes.
  3. Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine technical requirements, quality requirements, and overall manufacturing feasibility of the component.
  4. Manage and support all fabrication and welding activities in accordance with Energy Steel & Supply Co. Welding Program Manual.
  5. Prepare, implement, and maintain Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) and Welder Continuity Logs in accordance with applicable Codes and AWS regulatory requirements.
  6. Prepare, review, and release Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in accordance with applicable Codes and AWS regulatory requirements.
  7. Select/Implement code compliant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) for fabrication projects.
  8. Control and maintain filler metal/material inventory and oversee filler metal/material distribution for fabrication projects.
  9. Prepare and review Weld Data Records (WDR) in accordance with Fabrication Drawings to be used in conjunction with Shop Travelers.
  10. Assist the Project Manager in assessing equipment needs for contract fabrication performance.
  11. Assist estimators in creating bill of materials for quoting sales orders.
  12. Participate in design reviews with internal organizations to define and solve manufacturing and design issues to meet customer requirements.
  13. Work with the Quality department to define problem areas and develop process/product improvements based on customer concerns.
  14. Assist Project Manager with technical interface with subcontracted design organization.
  15. Assist Project Engineer in the creation of detailed job travelers.
  16. Prepare and review technical data such as qualification test procedures, design specifications, shop calculations, inspection and acceptance test procedures, reports, component non-conformances, fabrication procedures and other related materials.
  17. Support operations throughout the fabrication process by interacting with shop personnel and answering any questions in a timely manner.
  18. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BSWE or BSME and 1-5 years of experience in a commercial nuclear, defense or similar manufacturing environment.
  • 1-5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents of a technical nature.
  • Ability to respond effectively to customer inquiries or complaints.
  • Able to effectively use and understand computer-aided drafting (CAD) equipment and software. Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Able to apply Engineering and Manufacturing principles to a wide range of applications.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects of varying complexity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs. (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Project and Outlook)
  • Ability to utilize available resources effectively to solve problems.
  • Highly ethical with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented, organized, works independently, and highly motivated.
  • Ability to analyze welding parameters / techniques and how they impact weld quality.
