Job description

POSITION: MECHANIC
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service, maintain and repair mechanical parts in transportation support vehicles and equipment.
SUPERVISON BY: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISORS
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Diagnose and repair problems on Authority vehicles and equipment
  • Perform general maintenance of all Authority equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to, adjustment of engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and clutches on gas and diesel equipment; tune up engines, ignition parts, clean and adjust carburetors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and make inspections of vehicles for proper working order and safe operation.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Knowledge of welding practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of diesel and gasoline powered engines
  • Knowledge of routine vehicular maintenance
  • Skill in reading and interpreting technical information
  • Skill in making mechanical adjustments and repairs
  • A proficiency with diagnostics equipment
  • The ability to pass background checks for license, criminal and references
  • The ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen
  • Ability to pass criminal background checks

EDUCATIONAL and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years experience in bus mechanics or related field
  • A minimum of 2 State Certifications in Automotive Technology, preferably in Diesel engine, electrical, suspension or brakes
  • Extensive experience working on large trucks and/or buses
  • A valid Michigan driver's license and the ability to obtain a Group A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger endorsement

Employee is required to perform job duties in accordance with existing health and safety procedures and policies.
