General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Welding Instructor plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of skilled welding professionals. The successful candidate will teach in a modern, state-of-the-art Welding Technology Center equipped with industry-standard equipment and technology that supports hands-on, industry-focused learning.
This full-time, regular faculty position is responsible for developing and delivering high-quality instruction in the Welding Technology program through classroom, laboratory, online, and hybrid learning environments. Teaching responsibilities include lecture and hands-on laboratory in a variety of welding processes and related technical areas, including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW, oxyfuel and plasma cutting, welding safety, blueprint reading, metallurgy, fabrication and layout, welding inspection, and quality control.
The Instructor creates an engaging, safe, and inclusive learning environment that promotes technical excellence, professionalism, and student success while preparing graduates to meet the evolving needs of the welding and manufacturing industries.

The Welding Instructor provides engaging, hands-on instruction that prepares students for rewarding careers in the welding and manufacturing industries. This position combines technical expertise with a passion for teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students from diverse backgrounds.
The Instructor creates an environment where students are challenged, supported, and empowered while developing skills in industry-leading welding processes, fabrication techniques, blueprint reading, metallurgy, safety practices, and workplace professionalism.
Inspire Learning
- Teach lecture and lab courses using engaging, student-centered instructional strategies.
- Demonstrate industry best practices in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, fabrication, layout, cutting processes, welding inspection, and related technical areas.
- Create learning experiences that build technical skills, confidence, critical thinking, problem-solving, and workplace professionalism.
- Incorporate current industry technology, equipment, and emerging manufacturing trends into instruction.

Marginal Functions
- May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Apply current industry expertise in welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, Oxy-Fuel, and Plasma Arc welding.
- Demonstrate and teach welding, fabrication, metallurgy, blueprint reading, welding inspection, quality control, manufacturing processes, and industry best practices.
- Interpret and apply applicable welding codes, standards, and procedures, including AWS, ASME, API, and nondestructive testing methods (UT, RT, PT, MT, and ET).
- Safely operate, maintain, and instruct students in the use of welding and metal fabrication equipment, including shears, press brakes, iron workers, forklifts, portable welders, and other shop equipment.
- Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction using effective teaching strategies, assessment methods, and instructional technologies.
- Foster a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom and laboratory environment that promotes student success, professionalism, and workplace readiness.
- Integrate technology into instruction, including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Canvas, and other learning management systems.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, colleagues, industry partners, and community members through written, verbal, and electronic communication.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support curriculum development, program improvement, accreditation activities, recruitment efforts, and College initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports related to assessment, budgeting, scheduling, equipment, and program planning.
- Adapt to changing instructional needs, including varied schedules, multiple campuses, special events, and assigned responsibilities.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety by following OSHA regulations, Hazard Communication Standards, and College safety policies.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
- Ability to use basic computer skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and industry experience.
- Recent professional welding and fabrication experience related to the area of assigned instruction.
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification must be obtained within three years of employment as a condition of continued employment.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Previous experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, training, or developing others in an industry or educational setting.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Certified Welding Educator (CWE), or other relevant industry certifications.
- Experience with advanced welding technologies, including robotic welding, CNC cutting systems, automation, or emerging manufacturing processes.
- Previous community college, technical education, or workforce training experience.
- Experience developing curriculum, instructional materials, or industry-based training programs.
Salary
$57,912 per year
Benefits
SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).
Schedule
This is a full-time, regular faculty position with an implied 40-hour work week based on a 175-day instructional work calendar. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. Because of the nature of skilled trades education, occasional evening, weekend, special event, recruitment, or industry engagement activities may be required.
