Job description

The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), owned and operated by the Gallatin Airport Authority, is seeking a motivated individual for a full-time Airport Maintenance Technician position.

The Airport Maintenance Technician position is responsible for the proper general and preventative maintenance and upkeep of Authority facilities, grounds, airfield, equipment, and critical systems in accordance with applicable regulations, Authority requirements, and safety and quality standards, and the operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment including Authority-owned vehicles and snow removal equipment, and other duties as needed or assigned. The airport operates 24/7 365 days per year and schedules may vary based on business needs. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation:

  • Starting pay rate of $32.00 per hour depending on experience.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs general and preventative maintenance duties (routine and nonroutine) in a safe manner to maintain Authority facilities, grounds, airfield, equipment, and critical systems in good working order and in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Performs maintenance (routine and nonroutine) of the Authority airfield including maintaining and repairing surfaces, fences, gates, signs, lighting, and paint; performing grounds keeping, assisting with Foreign Object Debris (FOD); and installing and maintaining airfield signs and traffic control devices.
  • Performs general and preventative maintenance (routine and nonroutine) of Authority facilities, including elevators, conveyances, jet bridges, the baggage handling system, and other critical systems; conducts routine building and systems checks; monitors and documents performance of baggage handling system.
  • Performs grounds maintenance duties including mowing and trimming grass, ditch and pond maintenance, brush clearing and cutting, tree trimming, landscaping, maintaining irrigation systems, applying pesticides and herbicides in accordance with establish health and safety regulations, and collecting trash and removing debris.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports related to maintenance activities as required on manual forms or through digital means; interacts with work order system to receive assignments and document completion of tasks to required standard.
  • Repairs, marks, and stripes runways, taxiways, roads, crosswalks, curbs, and parking areas using paints and painting materials and equipment.
  • Performs snow and ice control and removal duties airside and landside in accordance with the Authority’s Snow and Ice Control Plan (SICP) and works cooperatively with the Authority’s Snow Team personnel; performs Snow Team role as assigned.
  • Performs light plumbing, carpentry, welding/fabricating, and electrical duties.
  • Operates power tools, hand tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Performs maintenance on and repairs to equipment.
  • Maintains an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies and maintains shop and work areas and equipment in clean and safe condition and assures the security of tools and equipment.
  • Assists other Authority personnel and provides instruction to others as needed.
  • Works effectively with vendors, contractors, and suppliers in performing maintenance duties.
  • Assists with trash removal and disposal as needed.
  • Maintains compliance with safety, security and environmental regulations and procedures.
  • Ensures Maintenance Management is kept apprised of significant events that occur during the shift.
  • Communicates effectively and exchanges information in a professional and positive manner with employees, tenants, concessionaires, vendors, contractors, and the public.
  • Provides escort in the movement and non-movement area to authorized individuals as needed.
  • Participates in the Authority’s Safety Management System.
  • Operates and drives light and heavy equipment and Authority-owned vehicles landside, in non-movement area, and in movement area.
  • Uses effective and standard radio communications to communicate with other personnel.
  • Completes required trainings.
  • Practices and adheres to the Authority’s policies and procedures and federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • 18 years or older
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Mechanical background and aptitude, including but not limited to, 1+ year(s) of experience in building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, electronics and information technology, auto/diesel mechanics, welding/fabrication, and/or grounds maintenance and irrigation systems
  • Proficiency in use of hand and power tools
  • Able to compare and/or judge readily observable functional, technical, structural, compositional or identifiable characteristics of data, people or things
  • Ability to read and understand spatial and graphical displays and enter information into hard copy or computer-based logs and records
  • Able to follow instructions, work safely, and independently
  • Must meet physical requirements necessary to perform essential functions of the position (with or without a reasonable accommodation)
  • Must pass a 10-year pre-employment Criminal History Background Check (CHRC) necessary to obtain federally mandated security clearances, badging, and access to the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport and retain access authority and an active badge with the necessary credentials to perform the essential responsibilities of position
  • Must pass a 7-year Pre-employment Background investigation
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License, pass required motor vehicle checks in order to operate heavy equipment and Authority-owned vehicles and meet insurability requirements
  • Must achieve movement area access within 90 days of employment and maintain access privileges
  • Must safely operate and drive light and heavy equipment and Authority-owned vehicles landside, in non-movement area, and in movement area
  • Must communicate effectively on airport radio systems
  • Must be available to work various shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays and work overtime as needed
  • Knowledge of airport operations and radio procedures (Preferred)
  • Experience in the safe operation of light and heavy equipment (Preferred)
  • Experience with snow removal equipment in a runway environment (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with and ability to use computers and computer-based programs (e.g., MS Outlook, work order tracking systems) (Preferred)
  • Able to read and understand a variety of professional, technical, regulatory and administrative documentation, directions, instructions, methods, and procedures and learn and understand subject matter principles and techniques (Preferred)
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
