Primary purpose of this position:

Weld metal pipe together for a commercial mechanical contracting operation.

Specific Job Duties:

  • Fuse metal pipe segments together using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding and submerged arc welding.

  • Weld pipe components in flat, vertical or overhead positions

  • Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material

  • Perform normal cutting and grinding tasks

  • Ability to fit own pipe together

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work on a team and interact with people

  • Punctual and regular attendance

  • Understanding of single and three phase electrical systems

  • Working knowledge of applicable boiler codes

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Must have the ability to travel to job sites and occasionally have overnight stays

  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor

  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driver qualification policy

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be a high school or trade school graduate or have a GED

  • Three years' experience in pipefitting, fabricating, and welding

  • Experience pipe welding to code is preferred

  • Ability to obtain welding certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Ability to work at heights

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally and lift and carry 40 lbs. routinely

  • Must be able to climb and work on ladders, scaffolding and stairs

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time as well as stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl in order to work in tight spaces

  • Must be able to use hands to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects
