Position: Industrial Arts Teacher

Location: Massabesic High School

Position Summary

The Industrial Arts / Metal Shop Teacher delivers engaging, hands-on instructional programs that focuses on technical skills around metal fabrication, welding, and other modern technology. This role ensures students develop practical technical competencies, rigorous safety habits, problem-solving skills, and the work habits that can support their interest in higher education, technical training, or direct entry into the workforce within the field.

Reports To

Building Administration (Principal and/or Assistant Principal)

Compensation: Annual salary range of $49,000$88,477

Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts, Technology Education, Career & Technical Education (CTE), Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Certification: Holds or is eligible for appropriate Maine Department of Education Certification (e.g., 700 - Technology Education or relevant CTE endorsement).
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in metalworking, welding, machining, tool operation, and shop safety protocols. Teaching or industry experience preferred.


Performance Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a comprehensive curriculum covering metal fabrication, sheet metal work, welding processes, machining, bench work, and blueprint reading.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons and projects.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide feedback as required
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Maintain a secure, clean, and highly organized shop and classroom environment compliant with local, state, and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Instruct, model, and strictly enforce daily shop safety rules, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and proper tool usage.
  • Perform routine maintenance, safety inspections, and basic repairs on machinery, welding equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Manage equipment inventory, order materials and raw metal stock within budget guidelines, and properly dispose of hazardous shop waste.
  • Guide students in real-world problem-solving, precision measurement, and quality craftsmanship.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assist administration in implementing school policies and maintaining a fair, orderly classroom.
  • Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment

Salary, work year, and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the School Board's policy on evaluation.

The employee must be able to:

  • Sit, stand, climb stairs, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, push, and pull.
  • Lift 2575 lbs (depending on student size).
  • Perform other physical tasks as required.
