A-C Equipment Services, a division of thyssenkrupp Polysius North America, Inc., is engaged in the design, manufacture, installation and service of rotary kilns. Our customer base includes cement manufacturers, paper mills and various other mineral and chemical processing companies located in all parts of the United States.

Your responsibilities

The Field Mechanic/Welder installs and repairs equipment and machinery in industrial facilities by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Install, repair, replace, and dismantle machinery according to blueprint specifications.

  • Act as signal person for A-C employed crane operators to ensure continuity of safety on the worksite.
  • Use hoists, pulleys, jacks, and come-a-longs to perform tasks.
  • Fit bearings, align gears and wheels and attach motors.
  • Welding: Join steel materials with various arc welding processes to form a permanent bond.
  • Cutting: Use heat from burning gases or an electric arc to cut and trim metal objects to specific dimensions.
  • Move equipment and materials to different locations using a forklift and/or manlift.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will have no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Your profile

Required Education & Experience:

High School degree or General Education degree (GED) and 1-2 years welding experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Flux core Arc Welding (FCAW) - must pass a qualification test.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Welder.
  • Experience with welding on heavy plate steel/structural steel.
  • Prior experience working in construction industry/activities in a Cement, Paper, or Mineral/Aggregate processing environment.
  • Dedication to safe and environmentally compliant work.
  • Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA regulations.
  • Able to show initiative and decisiveness.
  • Work well within a team environment.

  • Up to 75% Travel. This position requires extensive travel to customer locations throughout the United States.
  • The employee is regularly required to travel for several weeks at a time working 12-hour shifts seven days per week.
