A Brief Overview
Assist residents to the dining room, serve food, prepare food for eating, interact with residents during the meal and assist in feeding the residents.
What you will do

  • Check with charge nurse for residents on fluid restriction.
  • Offer coffee or water for residents not on fluid restriction and pre-breakfast snack.
  • Be in the dining room to place cover ups on the tables and assist residents.
  • Assist with passing trays and set up trays as needed (cut meat, butter bread - without touching the food).
  • Assist with feeding residents
  • Clean up dining room and sweep.
  • Record intakes and place trays in cart.
  • Visit and interact with residents in polite and pleasant manner.
  • May entertain residents with games or activities.
  • Assist residents out of the dining room and into their rooms, if time allows, non-weight bearing transports.

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. These requirements and those listed above are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Education of the nutritional section and feeding principles from the Dining Assistant Training

Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • High School or GED Equivalent
